Title: PTE John Arthur McCartney
Post by: Elaine280 on Wednesday 10 October 18 06:44 BST (UK)
Hi, I’ve been searching my great grandfather on Ancestry. When I search it comes up with some WW1 records. His date of birth is 31.10.1869 born in Toxteth, Liverpool. His number is on the search is RASCM2 156565.  Is there anyone who would be able to tell me if it’s the same John Arthur McCartney, are DOB on military records.

Thanks in advance

Elaine

Sorry, just realised, probably not him as I think he would have been too old to enlist at 46. Sorry!

Don't immediately discount this find.  One of my great grandfathers volunteered for the RE aged 42.  The Army Service Corps may well have been happy to take a mature experienced man.
