Title: John & Samuel Mayne of Ballyboley
Post by: draarcy on Monday 15 October 18 08:31 BST (UK)
I am researching the family of Thomas & Martha Mayne of Ballyboley.
I am trying to locate the birth details of a son John Mayne. He is mentioned in his father Thomas Mayne’s Will along with his brother James.  There is a death of a John Mayne in 1886 (age 63) whose brother James was at the death. There is also letters of administration for John which mentions James.  However I have not been able to locate a birth record for John.  Any assistance would be appreciated.
There is also another son, Samuel, born in 1825 (we have the record). Samuel is also listed in the Revision Books in 1887, however his name does not appear in the 1893 revision book. This is the last trace of him.  I haven’t been able to locate a death record or a trace of Samuel.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

The Will of Thomas Mayne late of Ballyboley County Antrim Farmer deceased who died 18 March 1880 at same place was proved at Belfast by the oaths of John Mayne and James Mayne both of Ballyboley Farmers the Executors. Will dated 25 Dec.1885 mentions daughter Eliza Jane McCookin and sons Robert, John & James.

Thomas Mayne was 87 when he died according to death registration- LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1880/06492/4868604.pdf)

Letters of Administration of the personal estate of John Mayne late of Ballyboley County Antrim Farmer who died 4 July 1886 at same place were granted at Belfast to James Mayne of Ballyboley Farmer a Brother.

John Mayne was 63 according to death registration- LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1886/06243/4787652.pdf)

Since John seems to have been born around 1823 there will be no birth certificate and you'll have to see if a record of his baptism survives (not all early church records do survive and of those that do not all, especially Presbyterian ones, are online).

A John Mayne of Ballyboley died 1909 age 76- so, born c1833- LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1909/05474/4532196.pdf)

Probate of the Will of James Mayne late of Ballyboley County Antrim Farmer who died 13 March 1909 granted at Belfast to Thomas Mayne Solicitor's Assistant and John Mayne Farmer. Will dated 10 Dec.1903 mentions sons (John, Thomas, Robert, Andrew, William James, Samuel) & daughter (Lizzie).
