Hi,
I have a William Henry Swinnerton born 26 January 1888 Staffordshire.
William married Nancy C Young aged 21, the daughter of John and Sarah née Smith, on the 26th of November 1914 at Boston, Massachusetts.
There are a few crossings from America to England in the following years.
But I cannot find the first crossing sometime before his marriage in 1914.
Can anyone see him?
thanks,
bswinno.

There is an entry in the US Border Crossings Canada to US 1895-1956 - Family Search

Family Search has two versions of that 1913 Border Crossing with the last name spelled differently on both. One is just a transcription with no image, the other has image of passenger ship record.
The "William Swinniston" noted above (no Image)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XPBB-2JS
The "William Swinniaton" with image
He appears on line 4, images 205 & 206.

The record mentions a sister Lizzie in Staffordshire and his destination is a Mr Green in NY.

This looks possible :
W Swinnerton b 1888 , footman
dep 11 April 1913 Liverpool
ship's destination St Johns , New Brunswick
SS Virginian
I can't pick him up on the arrival manifest.
Edit : found him as Wm H Swinnertor , destination province Quebec.
arrived Halifax , NS 18 Apr 1913

Thanks guys,
Defiantly the right William we have him as a Butler, and also his sister's name Lizzie.
But a bit more confusing information shows that he appears to have left the USA in April 1923 and left again in August 1923 returning again in 1935 his wife having arrived here in 1934.
Was there more than one William Henry?

If you look on Image 206 from the above ship's list and the last 4 columns his seaport of landing is St Johns. Date of landing 18 Apr. 1913 and name of ship is SS SS Virginian.
This seems to support what you have posted.

I can see him arriving in Boston 17 Aug 1923 . His nearest relative is his wife Nancy at an address in Tamworth. Is he going to and fro with an employer ?
-
I simply don't know the reason for his multiple crossings. I do know that he had family in America and both William and Nancy his wife died in Massachutes in 1970 and 1990.
-
I presume you have found the family on the 1930 census in Cushing Street , Boston ?

Yes Christine I had noticed the Census
Thanks for that.
