I was working on a family and accidentally pressed a wrong key I now have three children which is fine but I have
4 M....How do I get rid of it I have tried but cannot delete it.
Thank you

I'm guessing this is a family tree programme problem.
What programme are you using?
-
Newest Roots Magic
-
Ok, so not a Rootschat problem.
I'll move this over to our Technical help board

Thank You

This query might get more attention from someone who can help,if you go back to the first post and add Deleting a person on Rootsmagic family tree programme
-
If you have the person linked to parents you have to unlink him or her first, then you can delete them.
-
Yes have tried that...still left with 4 M
Thanks anyway xx

Unlink the person ( I assume "4 M" is a person?) from family.
(Edit, Unlink, Unlink From Parents)
Unlink the person from spouse.
(Edit, Unlink, Unlink From Spouse)
Then Delete the person
(Edit, Delete, Person)
-
Thank you
I have done that but it is still there.
-
I'm still not sure what exactly "4 M" is?
Can you confirm you have created a person called "4 M"?
If not what on earth are you referring to?
Check any residual links by clicking on the name, and selecting the "Family" tab.
Any children, parents or spouses will show on the screen.
-
I was thinking the same thing too... 4 M ?
Try closing down and restarting the program, check to see if the person has gone, if not try deleting again.
I have never had this problem with Roots Magic, and I have been using it since 2003 ( now using the latest version)
As a last resort, go back to previously saved dataset, assuming you do a backup after closing very time you are working on your tree. Hopefully not too much work to reenter

You could try 'Database Tools' in the 'File' menu, which gives you an option to 'Clean Phantom Records'
