I have been trying to find the deaths of two of my family and I am bemused as to why I cannot find anything past 1957.
I am looking for the registered deaths of Michaeline Christine Jensen [born 2 Aug 1888 - Denmark]. She became Wilkes when she married Henry Wilkes. Henry was born initially as Robinson in Camberwell on 12 April 1879 - name changed at baptism to Wilkes. The couple have mostly lived at 171-175 [Flat 35] Queensgate SW7 [Knightsbridge Ward but most of the records stop at 1957. I am therefore presuming that they passed away shortly after this year.
I have tried all avenues - can anyone help please.
Much appreciated.

you post suggests you might only have been looking at the death entries on the direct GRO site which stop at 1957
have you tried freebmd or one of the subscription sites which go upto 2006?
-
Perhaps you mean that their electoral register entries seem to stop in 1957? Not all are online, but I agree they are elusive after that. Might they have emigrated?

The the GRO Online Index for deaths stops at 1957.

I know, and Dawn has said that, but it’s not clear whether Leith Lass is referring to that or to the couple’s London electoral roll entries, the last of which is in 1957.

Their neighbours at Alexandra Court, Queen’s Gate, SW7 also stop appearing after 1957 (though some reappear elsewhere) so it may be that 1957 is the cutoff for these Westminster records.
-
They do seem to be quite elusive, the only records I can find below. Sadly no death record which on some sites is up to 2006.
RAF Henry Wilkes
mother Sarah Wilkes
Birth 12/04/1879 Camberwell London
Military 18/12/1917
Henry Wilkes Marriage 1921 Kensington London Michaeline C Jensen
No trace of any census but on 1939 register.
Both on electoral roll London and Westminster to 1953

Hi All - thank you. Yes I was referring to the electoral register of 1957. Hence I anticipate their deaths to be after this year but I am unable to find anything further. I have tried all free sites and paid sites but unable to find their deaths. I wouldn't have thought that they would emigrate so late in their lives. I know that within the family they sometimes used the Robinson surname and other times the Wilkes and sometimes both. Very confusing.
Thank you all again your time is much appreciated. Frustrating as it is I will keep looking. x

It might be easier to track down 'Michaeline' or variant spellings as that is quite an unusual first name.
-
How about phone books? Anc have quite a collection online.
-
Thank you. I will give that a try.
-
Hi Dawnsh - Have tried every name variation I can think of. I even thought she remarried and went down that route. I am afraid that the Robinson / Wilkes have been quite difficult to trace because of the way in which they choose to record their names. It has been a bit of a nightmare but hopefully one day I will solve this one. x

Could they have moved to Scotland,or Ireland, not neccesarily 'abroad'?
-
I know this is going backwards, do you have that he was admitted to the United Grand Lodge, location London on 11 December 1916 first paid year 1917 he is listed s a printer address Herne Hill.
and under the name Henry Wilkes.
Ref: 1900-1921 membership Register - on ancestry
Herne Hill is where his mother Sarah Ann Robinson Wilkes is living in 1911, with his sister Alice age 33

Hi Dawnsh - I have Ancestry worldwide along with dabbling in the other search sites. Still nothing. It may be that the transcriptions of names are wrong and I am passing them by.
Hi Amondg - Thank you for your response. I believe I have this information but thank you anyway. I am pretty much up to speed on their history except their Deaths.
This family are very interesting but a real mystery to me at times. Hey ho that's what makes it worth while when you actually find something.
Thank you all again x

Hi
Perhaps they moved to Denmark. Do you know where she was from in Denmark?

Hi Jamcat 95
I have Michaeline born on 2 Aug 1888 • Fakse, Praesto, Denmark.
I just think that at their late stages in life they would have remained in the UK. I have Ancestry Worldwide and have tried that but no luck. I have found a couple of Henry Wilkes who died late 60s and early 70s but not in the districts I would have thought the deaths to be registered so no conclusive facts as yet. I dont want to go down the route of death certs as it gets very expensive.
Thank you again for your interest and assistance.

1957 was definitely their last appearance at 35 Alexandra Court (171-175 Queen's Gate S.W.7)
1958 there is no one listed at number 35 (register online, London and Westminster, image 173 of 273)
1959 has Helen A Raitz and Vladimir G Raitz at 35 (London and Westminster, image 382)

Thank you for this so it is as I thought that after 57 they either moved or one or both passed away.
There are no records on immigration to suggest that they moved. I do have a record of a cremation for Henry Wilkes in 1974 at Southwark which if this was him suggests that he went back to his roots. Nothing on Michaeline. I will search electoral rolls again - it is sooo frustrating. Thank you.

Henry was a director of this company?

Yes he was the son of Thomas Peter Wilkes and Sarah Ann Robinson. TPW owned the Printing company Wilkes & Co they were later taken over by this company. Other brothers were employed in the firm also and my husbands grandfather Thomas Peter Robinson Wilkes was a Manager.

So interested to read this. My grandfather, Herbert Alfred Hollis, was cost accountant with Wilkes in SE London, near Blackfriars I think. He lived in Camberwell then. The firm moved in abt 1936 and he moved to live in Harrow to be nearer. In 1939 although aged 46 he enlisted, having had a very bad Great War, and took leave from Wilkes until he was demobbed. My grandmother met him at Wilkes in SE London, she was a paper folder then a despatch clerk. I would love to know a bit more about the printing firm. My late mother said Mr Harry Wilkes was a lovely gentleman.

Mention here from somebody who is the nephew of Michaeline Christine Jensen (who married an Englishman named Henry Wilkes)
Says he died in 1965, fb (Frederiksberg I think in the thread context), gives an address where she lived, her death not known but thought to be around 1980.
