Hi,
I am looking for my ancestor Eliza Halse who is born at Notting Hill, London May 29th 1831. Her parents were Joseph Halse and Eliza Bronker. I didn't find any information about them and your help would be very appreciated. Eliza immigrated to Australia and married Edward John Sinnett in 1853 and after his death, she married my ancestor Jesse Richard Stokes in 1857. Both marriages at St Paul's Church of England of Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
Kind Regards
Evelyne Stokes

I am sure Eliza Halse is born May 29th 1831 and that her parents were Joseph Halse and Eliza Bronker. Thank you for your information. To Jamjar: I found some information here in Australia about Eliza Halse/Morrison. i just noticed the name Morrison in your families. Do you know about a possible link between Eliza Halse and the family Morrison? To answer to your question Jamjar, Eliza Halse arrived in Victoria, Australia in 1850. I don't know if she was with other family members but I will look tomorrow and will post the answer. Thanks . Rosie99 thank you for your help. Eliza immigrated to Australia in 1850 but there is something with the name Morrison. When I started to look for her here in Australia, some of the researches gave me Eliza Halse/Morrison. The 1849 marriage with Eliza Morrison needs to be investigated. I am going to look

The address given on Eliza's baptism in 1852 was 6 Georges Court. These people are at 6 Georges Court in 1851.
I am trying to track mother Eliza (Dodd) backwards - the children have surnames Hale (Eliza) and younger siblings Morrison.

When she married Edward was it as HALSE? I cannot not see either marriage on VICBDM. Nor a death with her parents’ names?
No, my Morrison was from Scotland.

To Rosie99.
I am sure of the information about Eliza Halse's Parents. As I am sure she had a sister named Sarah born in 1827. These information came from the family and I have pictures too.
Eliza Halse married Edward John Sinnett (1822-1855) in Geelong in 1853. In 1855 Edward John Sinnett died. They have had 2 sons. In 1857 Eliza married Jesse Richard Stokes (1811-1884). They have had 7 children. Eliza died in 1918 in Ballarat.
Excepted these information, I do not have a lot about her life in England.

Always a bit tricky to be sure the extent of people's existing knowledge and how many certificates for the life events people have.
That is the reason for seeming to go over "old ground"

Hi Sparett,
Yes it is difficult to find accurate information. But Morrison is a mystery as the family knew her as Halse. The problem is that sometimes people put all the names they found. Registration is not always accurate in Australia. I have the example of Eliza Halse Stokes's son who was declared married in Yorkshire but never went in England and he married in Perth before to go to WW1 Gallipolli .

Yes, I know. I asked because I was looking for her entry into SA, as you said that you didn’t know whether she came alone. Also, she couldn’t have arrived in 1850, if she was being baptised in England in 1852.
So, she arrived somewhere between 19 August 1852 and 11 February 1853.

The certificates of her marriage to Richard STOKES and that of the death of Richard STOKES are published on an online tree.
On the marriage certificate she gives information that her parents are Joseph HALSE and Eliza BRUNKER.
Have you sighted this document or others relevant?

Hi Sparett,
Yes it is difficult to find accurate information. But Morrison is a mystery as the family knew her as Halse.
Looking back through the thread at the information given, you will see her mother remarried when ELiza was young and it looks as if the MORRISON name was used by all children from both marriages.

What is her date of marriage in 1853?
Jamjar
A calculation of the approximate likely date for this marriage (in the absence of information from Evelyne) at Christ Church Geelong
Using the index registration number of the marriage -23838- and year 1853, I have looked reg numbers for 1853 marriages preceding and following it and noted couples names. With reg 23842 I found a marriage which was publicised in the Geelong paper. Not relevant whose it was, but the date was 18th Feb 1853.
I suspect, therefore, around that month in 1853 for Eliza's marriage would fit the index sequence.
