By maternal bloodlines I am a relative of the Reverend Joseph Barker who was the appointed Prebendary and Vicar of Ballisadare (Achonry) from 1872 to 1879. Prior to that he had arrived in Achill in 1852 and succeeded the Revd Edward Nangle as Rector and Vicar of Achill (1852-1872), and was involved with the Achill Mission Colony. Reverend Joseph Barker died in Nervi, Italy on 21 April, 1879 aged 86 years - I am endeavouring to locate where he may have been buried and would appreciate hearing from anyone who may kindly assist me accordingly.

By maternal bloodlines Charles Joseph Barker and Miriam Lois Barker (nee Vallance) are my Great Grandparents; Charles Joseph was the second born to the Reverend Joseph Barker and Emma Caroline Barker (nee Fetherstonhaugh)...
My understanding is that Charles Joseph had an older sister Emma Emily Barker and younger siblings Lindsey Bucknill Barker, Emma Barker, Cuthbert J Barker, Alexander Barker and Jane Marcia Caroline Barker - Charles Joseph Barker emigrated to New Zealand arriving on 24 August 1875, was married on 18 April 1876, had children James Alexander Barker, Ivy Emmeline Barker, Miriam Lois Barker, Norman Fetherstonhaugh Barker and Leila Barker, and died of cancer on 25 July 1893...
My information in regards the ecclesiastical history of Reverend Joseph Barker is that he served in the various sequential capacities, C Achill (Tuam) 1852; R Achill (Tuam) 1852-71; Preb of Faldown (Tuam) 1852-79; Preb and V Ballisadare (Ach) 1872-79 - Joseph Barker passed away in Nervi, Italy on 21 April 1879 aged 86 years...
At this time I am unaware of where the Reverend Gentleman may have been buried - I would be keen to make contact with others of whom the Reverend Joseph and Emma Caroline Barker (nee Fetherstonhaugh) may likewise be an integral part of their Ancestral Family lineage...
Best Regards

Greetings Hallmark
Many thanks for your sterling research and kind responses to my enquiry...
The Biographical entry for (Reverend) BARKER, JOSEPH 1792/93-1879 in part reads "...entered Trinity College Dublin 5 May 1845, BA 1850, Solicitor before ordination 1850..."
Charles Joseph (born 1844) may in fact have been the first child of Joseph and Emma Caroline Barker (nee Fetherstonhaugh) with other issue in 1846, 1848, 1850, 1852, 1855 and 1857; they married 7 September, 1842 - Emma Caroline Barker died 4 February, 1860 aged 35 years and is buried at St. Matthew's Church of Ireland, Glenloughaun, Clontuskert, County Galway...
The Biographical entry for Reverend Barker as per the 'Wills and Administration 1879' reads in part "...Prebendary and Vicar Ballisadare (Ach) 1872-79...Died 21 April 1879, Nervi, aged 86 years...' - I have ascertained that appointment was at the now deconsecrated (1998) St. Crumnathy's Cathedral, Achonry, County Sligo, hence perhaps the reference "...late of Collooney, County Sligo..." in the 'Wills and Administration 1879' document - where he is buried for me as yet remains unknown...
My information is that Jane Marcia Caroline Barker, the Wife of Major Charles Molyneux Brunker, was likely the last child, born March 30, 1857 at Achill Glebe, a little less than 3 years prior to her Mother's passing...
Cuthbert Fetherstonhaugh Barker as per the Kenya Gazette 29 April 1952 'Probate and Administration' Notice seems possibly to be a child of Samuel Lindsay Bucknell Barker and Kate Barker (nee Leatham) according to information I have to hand...
Once again, my every appreciation for your earnest research and most informative postings...

Anna Jane Townsend daughter of Richard Townsend and Helena Trench married John Croasdaile, son of Lancelot Croasdaile which is probably why a Trench is mentioned in Kenya.

So, has she a gravestone and what is on it??

Emma Caroline Barker's gravestone is inscribed...
'Here lie the remains of Emma Caroline Barker, the Wife of Revd. J Barker, Rector of Achill who died Feb 4th 1860, aged 35 years. All is Well God is Love'

Hi Folks,
REV. JOSEPH BARKER 1793-1879
I am Steve62 who has the posting "Italian Research". As suggested by a member earlier on "bastawolfie" has contacted me by PM with all the details.
As I live in Italy I will research the burials in Nervi, Italy and the local authorities to find where he is actually buried.
I will be replying by e-mail, but will post my findings here.

Just a little update,
Nervi burials are not online. To find out exactly if he is buried there or another cemetery such as the famous Staglieno Cemetery in Genoa have written to the cemeteries dept at the town hall in Genoa as Nervi comes under their jurisdiction.
