Title: Michael Joseph Tierney - Narrandera New South Wales
Post by: liver007 on Friday 19 October 18 16:16 BST (UK)
My 3 x grandfather Michael J Tierney DOB: @1847-1849  born Liverpool seems to have made his way to Australia from Liverpool? My 3 x gran died sometime before 1891? I have found that a Michael J Tierney died in Narrandera New South Wales in 1916.  His parents were Michael Tierney & Anne Tierney Nee Reilly.  Which ties in, my mother always told me of a Tierney connection to Australia I always thought of it as an old wives tale.  Any help would be gratefully received.  Regards Keith Hearn

Hi,

NSW BDM online index has a death registration for Michael J TIERNEY registered in the Narrandera district, in 1916 with parents as Michael and Anne...  Their reference #9853.

Do you have copy of that d.c. or copy of the official transcription of the d.c.?

It should give you details that will help you to confirm or eliminate that chap from your research as NSW BDMs are quite informative, including information such as the deceased’s:
Age at death
Where born
How long in the colony/state
If married, when/where, to whom
If children, their names and ages
Occupation
Usual address
Parents names, including mum’s nee name
Cause/s of death
Length of illness
Where buried/cremated
And other vital family history info….

If you don't have that NSW BDM record, may I suggest that the official transcription will be the better alternative...  https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-search.aspx

It is possible that the chap whose death certificate I am writing about did not die in Narrandera.  NSW BDM notes it as registered in the Narrandera district.    I am wondering if the chap may have died about 12 May 1916, and was buried in Ganmain Cemetery, which is around 50 kms from Narrandera...  The NSW BDM index drills down to that date. and family search has the following:

 :)

I think there's several:
a) the chap the OP has found
b) the chap Sue has found
c) there's a chap by that name in the same decade (1911-1920) in the Balmain district
d) there's a chap by that name in the same decade (1911-1920) in the Waverley district

I have not looked through my offline resources for NSW in the earlier decade 1901-1910, and it could be a week or more before I can  ::)  :-X

Red Post
Agh, so that will likely eliminate the chap the OP was considering...   age/middle name  ;)
