Title: Which church is this ????
Post by: Kazzacross on Saturday 20 October 18 13:10 BST (UK)
Hi, looking for anyone who can shed a bit of light on which church this would of been please
1838
16th January 1838
Alexander Cross of Piperhill of the parish of Galloon, and Frances Doogan of Drumrain Duff of the parish of Galloon, were married in this Church by License, this sixteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight by me John M. Graydon, Curate.
This marriage was solemized between us: Alexander Cross; Frances Doogan alias Cross.
In the presence of: William Moore; Frances Bryans.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but it doesn't say what church.
Thanks for any help
Karen

According to the PRONI guide to church records, the only church in Galloon parish with records for the 1830s is Galloon Church of Ireland. What’s your source for the information?

Karen,

Yes Irish records can be tricky compared with other countries. In this case if you follow the links on the Fermanagh Gold site, you’ll find that their information was obtained from PRONI’s copy of the church records. The reference quoted is MIC1/51 and the PRONI church catalogue confirms that’s Galloon Church of Ireland (i.e. Episcopalian).

Ahhhh right , I'm an amateur with all this, I got the link for Fermanagh gold off here, and that has been a big help, I'm not sure if I get the actual certs that it would give any more info like d.o.b and parents names. Thanks for helping out.

I was checking the records for St Comgalls last week in PRONI.

The records for St Comgalls back until the late 18th century though they can be a bit hard to read. The other related Churches are Drumully and Sallaghy.

You can view a lot online here as well:

Thanks jdchisim, I think I'll have to save up and pay a visit to Ireland, see where my ancestors lived and visit PRONI to see what other details I can find. Most of the records I can find name places "Newtown butler" - "drumrain duff" and "piperhill" , but not sure if they are close by each other or not . Thanks for your reply.

No problem.

They are likely townlands - which are the smallest land division in Ireland.

If you have names you can input them here:
https://www.townlands.ie/

That will show you where they are.

Drumdrainduff is one word for when your looking it up. Just N of Newtownbutler.

There are some old maps here you can browse
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/about-proni-historical-maps-viewer

I'm not sure if I get the actual certs
There won't be certificates at that date. From
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/irish-records-what-is-available/civil-records
The General Register Office (GRO) holds all official records of Irish births, deaths and marriages from 1864 and of non-Catholic marriages from 1845.

Perhaps you mean seeing the actual parish record rather than a transcription? Parish records rarely give parents' details or age, other than 'full age' or 'minor'.
