Folks,
I am having trouble finding any records for Longthorpe,Genuki does not recognise the name nor is it listed on Archersoftware list of parishes.Google Earth shows it  just west of Peterborough.
Can anyone throw some light on it,please?
Looking for baptism of Ann Brown c 1833.

Only a few miles from city centre of Peterborough.

Also, says Cambridgeshire, not Northamptonshire

Do you have her on the 1841 census?

Do you know of any younger siblings?

The mighty wikky (not always 100% accurate!) has:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Longthorpe,_Northamptonshire_Genealogy
LONGTHORP, a chapelry, in the parish of St. John the Baptist, Peterborough, union and soke of Peterborough, N. division of the county of Northampton, 2 miles (W.) from the city of Peterborough.

If you haven't found it on line, I can go to the archive in Peterborough an have a look, but I won't get a chance to go there for about a fortnight

I may have this wrong but did Ann Brown marry William Newman in 1872?

I can see what seems to be them on the 1891 census, Ann born in Longthorpe. I can't find a baptism of Ann Brown there. They are in Kent in 1871.

A William Newman also married Ann Grossmith in 1868 and she appears on the 1881 Census as the step-sister (actually sister-in-law) of Thomas Brinsley. She was born in Longthorpe in the same year as Ann on the 1891 census.

Elizabeth Dicks on the 1881 census was also Grossmith of Longthorpe.

DCB,The marriage you found is the one i was using, but it now appears to not be connected as 1871 census shows married.
1881 census is the one i need.
Mvann,Thanks for the offer as it may be a year or two before i get there.
If you can check the marriage of Ann Grossmith to William Newman, his father John,a labourer, that will tie things up.

This is the 1881 census showing the three Grossmith sisters:-
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27C-CC3Z

William is still in Kent. Ignore the C - it is a loop on the N of Newman. Also, the age is incorrect:-
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27W-SB7K

He is also there on the 1885 Electoral Register.

I can't find details of the marriage, so it may have been at the Register Office.

Hi all

Been to Peterborough archives today. They don't have any microfiche for longthorpe as they believe it hasn't been filmed and that the registers are thought to be still with the church. May be worth getting in touch with the church warden at longthorpe
