Greetings Nice People,
It's a Family story that one of my Davies forebears was evicted from a farm he rented
somewhere in Cardiganshire.
The way it happened I was told was that his landowner that he rented the farm from
wanted to be a Tory M.P. and G/G/ grandfather or G.Grandfather voted Liberal and
as it wasn't a secret ballot the landowner found out and evicted him.
But, I have heard another possibility - That the landowner was a very religious spinster
who was annoyed that some of her "flock" didn't go to her church and gave them the
ultimatum that they must go to her church regularly within the next month or they will
have their farms taken away and given farmers that would.
I understand that 14 farmers and their families were evicted and my lot were amongst
them. Firstly, is either or both stories true and if so, how do I check if my Family were
involved. If it helps, he was supposed to be the Gamekeeper as well.
Also, does anyone know where they keep the list of people buried in Aberffrwd Cemetery
or any of the other small cemeteries in the area. I'm hunting for David Davies
born30/Nov/1878 died in Aberyswyth16/Aug/1944 supposed to be buried in Aberffrwd,
which has been closed for years, or the surrounding area.
I have been trying to find him for 3 years with very little luck
If you need more info about him I have posted some other things on my site.
Thank you - Kind Regards - Keith

Welsh Tithe Maps https://places.library.wales
You could try finding if your ancestor is recorded. If so, it should tell you the land owner. Do you have details of the farm he rented?
These maps cover a period 1838-1850

The Aberystwith Observer 18th December 1869 has an article on Political Evictions in Wales

Hi Keith.
Here again is the item taken from the newspaper report that refers to my cousin Mary Morice.
[ In April 1860, Miss Mary Morice, the owner of the Carrog
estate, near Llanddeiniol, in north Cardiganshire, sent her tenants the following
circular: 'I feel myself morally bound to set before you two alternatives, and you
are at liberty to choose for yourself, namely to attend our Church service with
your family and thus to support its principles, or otherwise (if your conscience
will not allow you to comply with my request) you must quit the farm which
you now hold of me.]
On the Carrog estate, fourteen families of farmers and
thirteen families of cottagers quit in September 1861, while only two families
were prepared to attend church.
To narrow down the date window Mary died in 1866.
Regards.
