Title: A house in 1862
Post by: LEMB on Monday 22 October 18 14:36 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to do some research on a family who were around in 1862.

They lived in 236 mount pleasant, in conwy.

But when i put it on the maps, it doesn't show any houses with that number on it? I've realised that it may have been knocked down by now! But i just wondered if anyone else could find it?

thank you :)

It never has been that long a road as far as I can see from the censuses. Where have you got the house number from ?

Hi,

it was on ancestry! but from looking at the maps i didnt think the road was that long either! it only has about 2 houses from what i could see. They lived at 70 water street and then moved to mount pleasant!

thankyou!

Are you sure that it is not the 'schedule' no from the 1861 census that you have.

Lauren, it is the schedule number that is 236 - your John Roberts and family. That's not the house number.  There are no house numbers shown in the 1861 or 1871 censuses for Mount Pleasant.

Thanks ShaunJ,
I should have checked back on Laurens posts  :)  I nearly posted that John Roberts & family were there in 1861.

Also, what about there address in Bangor? 70 Water Street, Bangor.
Is that a house number or would that have been a schedule too? :(

Water Street Bangor didn't have house numbers in the 1851 census either. 70 is the schedule number for John & Mary Roberts & family. The first schedule number in Water Street is 61.

The schedule was the census form that each head of household completed. Each one was numbered. Number 1 would be at the beginning of the enumerator's circuit.

If you look at Water Street on Google Streetview you can see that it is quite short and the old row of terraced cottages is on one side only. If you follow the enumerator's round and count off the schedule numbers you should be able to figure out approximately which house was occupied by the Roberts family.
