I gave up my Ancestry World subscription about six months ago, primarily for the cost and a slowing in the gathering of data. Since then I have been contacted by three reasonably close family members from all over the place and must now consider rejoining, but not at £180. Does anyone know of a good discount code please. If not Ancestry then Findmypast.
-
I don't know if you are aware of this or not but you can still respond to private messages on Ancestry after your subscription has expired. You can't initiate the contact but you can reply.

Try this link
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct
I used it successfully to get a Premium sub about ten days ago, so it may still work.
-
Thank you Blue. That is how they have contacted me but those conversations have created new queries and intrigues which could be explored.
I'll see if it works Sloe Gin, cheers [no pun intended]
-
It worked. Thank you, a £90 saving.
-
Has anyone use this discount code recently or know of any offers please?

The link still takes you to the page with the discount, so it should still work.
If it doesn't, ring them and demand it. You can quote the URL if needed.
I don't use their DNA, but rang them on the last day of my sub and asked why I shouldn't just let my sub lapse and resubscribe.
They renewed (pretty quickly) at the half price rate.
-
Thanks Andrew, I will give it a try :D
Carol

You will probably need to cancel your subscription or if you are not on auto renew let it run out before you try it. I think your sub must have 'expired' before it will work
-
I've just had a trawl around, and they cleaned out their page for the Black Friday DNA test deal.
If they left this one up it must be still valid.
-
That one has been up ages - I used it in October 2017 :)
-
Got it :D :D :D Thanks Rosie and Andrew ;)

Glad it worked ;D
-
Me too...I thought the offer would have expired.

Even earlier than that - September 2016. ;)

Many thanks. I've been wavering over whether/when to subscribe and this made up my mind. Just used it to buy a UK Premium subscription.

In the welcome e-mail I received it says "Your subscription will automatically renew after each year of subscription. At that time you will be charged the same price as when you signed up, unless you started on an introductory or promotional price, or if you were notified of a change to your renewal price. If you don't want to renew, cancel at least two days before your renewal date."

I cancelled mine a couple of weeks before, it continued on to the expiry date.

Thanks folks for your advice.... I'll cancel membership a week before hand then and then take up discounted membership...

My subs ran out on 27th Jan...

A great saving thanks very much to whoever posted the link in the first place much appreciated...
Anyone know if there's anything similar for FindMyPast?

Might be a stupid question, but does anyone know if the Worldwide subscription includes the Scottish Records?
Thanks.

Yes, it covers all ancestry records. What were you looking for in particular ?
Sandra
-
The best site for Scottish records is Scotlands people, they have many records not available elsewhere.
-
Thank you - I've used Scotlands People in the past, but find it quite expensive, so was just wondering if Worldwide Ancestry would mean I didn't need to use Scotlands People.
-
You would still have to use Scotlands People, they do have records others don't as Rosie rightly said.
Sandra
-
Worldwide Ancestry should not have any more Scottish records than those available on UK Ancestry :-\
-
Thank you all, for the clarification.
-
There are no certs. or census images for scottish records on ancestry or any other site, only transcriptions.
If you're searching e.g. a marriage, it will not give you any info. other than the names of the parties & where (RD).
You need to use SP for the original (low cost credits/pay-per-view with minimum £10 batches for 40 credits = 6 images at £1.50 per cert.) to find out their ages, occs, actual place of marriage (e.g. which church), their actual addresses (not just the RD), who the parents were with mothers' maiden names, fathers' occs. & who the witnesses were.

Having used other means whether free or by subscription sites, once you know how to manipulate SP to your advantage, I'm sure you will find SP very cheap in comparison with any other government site with a whole lot of extra info. not found on other full price certs. anywhere.
