good afternoon,
to all members i am trying to find where a private Frederick weir was during the first world war. all we know is that he drove a truck in france. his service number is 8532 and he was in the royal irish fusiliers.
also in regards to a different service man . what is a 3rd class airman also i have been trying to locate on google maps a place called schaapsbailie it is near passchendale.

This might be a start. At the moment I can't see his records - they could be amongst the 60% that were lost in a bombing raid in 1940.

groom,is there a difference between the rifles and the fusiliers. he was in france for the whole war and came home at the end.

Schaap Balir is about 5 miles just to the west of north of the town of Passchendaele (Passendale) above Westrozebeke.
Airman 3rd Class was the lowest airman rank in the Royal Flying Corps.
It does look as if, as Groom says, his records are lost. His medal record shows he started the war going overseas on 22 August 1914. That date and his service number indicate he was with 1st Battalion R Irish Fusiliers. That record also shows he finished overseas with 2nd Battalion but when he transferred from one to the other only his record would have told us.
