William Gardner born 1851 Hawkesbury, parents Lewis and Elizabeth Gardner. In 1872 William married Mary Ann Wait. On the 1881 census William seems to be married to Harriet but cannot find a suitable death for Mary Ann
Any help would be appreciated.

What were the households? a familysearch link is nice & easy to look at
Are there any kids with 'em?

On the 1881 census where Harriett is the mother 2 children William b 1879 and Mary C b 1881 both born in Hawkesbury

They residence at census is consistently Chipping Sodbury.
Search there and Use "similar surname" in the searches

In 1881 they spell the surname Gardener Mary Ann may be spelt in either way

Just found a Mary Elizabeth b 1880 mother Higgins so the marriage Tazzle found could be correct

They have a 2 year old William with them in 1881 gro gives his middle name as William Lewis Gradener mmn Higgins

Mary Ann Wait (e) was born 1853 Blockley which I found on ancestry so again may not be correct. Found a death in 1875 chipping sodbury age 54

So the "Death" is of a woman 30 years too old.
Which Person are you actually starting from?

Mary Ann Wait (e) who married William Gardner in 1872, If the marriage between William and Harriet Higgins Mary Ann very likely died between the 2 marriages.

What hard evidence have you seen that the william Gardener/Gardiner born CONSISTENTLY 1853 is the son of Lewis?
Lewis' son William is consistent about being born 1850/1851.
