Great Dathai now have fathers names as I had looked at nli site for Baptism of John Murphy c.1833-1834 but not legible his age was given as 77 on death record.
I am very confused with the Hodnett/Hartnett as on 1911 census Anne Murphy has nephew in house name Richard Hodnett age 21 are these 2 surnames known to be interchangeable?
Appreciate your help tks

Daniel's birth 6th June 1887 says Hodnett

this might be Richard's birth 1889 at 25 Fair Hill as Hartnett son of Robert and Hanorah Murphy

Great find Dathai I hadnt noticed on Census 1901 & 1911 Richard was born Cork City. His father Robert Hartnett was probably sister to Anne Hartnett (Hodnett) .
I have come across this family before in relation to my research which is all ensuing from a DNA match. By a strange coincidence my ggrandmother was a Kate Hartnett & I believe she had a brother Robert so a lot to try & figure out. Thanks again. I had thought my connection was through Murphy line but will now have to rethink. :)

Daithi, I remember seeing the deaths for Robert & Hanora Hartnett.
Robert died 1896 age 50 a widower, Nora died 1892 age 37 (Richard son would only be3 so explains him living in Bengour with Aunt Ann Murphy. His siblings are together in Shinnixwell Lane Cork Urban no 4, David 18, Mary 20 & Robert 14.
It looks as if the surname is Hartnett given all the findings.

yes i was checking out David as i could'nt find an obvious birth given his age in 1901 but i see from his marriage that he was son of Robert who appears to have been married before 1874

Daithi most of my Hartnett family came from Enniskeane.
From the marriage of Anne to John Murphy it gave her father as Robert.
I found several Baptisms including Anne 28th Nov 1844 Enniskeane to parents Robert Hartnett & mother Mary Connell.
I cannot locate a baptism for Robert Hartnett (Cork City) who would have been born c. 1846 in Enniskeane if I were to tie him in with Anne Murphy (Hartnett)
I will have a look for marriage for Robert Hartnett & Hanora Murphy. Tks again
-
Daithi found the Marriage Church Robert Hartnett & Hanorah Murphy 17 Feb 1867 in Cork & Ross Parish Murragh & Templemartin so the family must have originated in this area same as Anne Hartnett married to John Murphy
Its very puzzling trying to sort out.
Robert Hartnett was born c. 1846 & Hanorah Murphy born c. 1855 probably in this area also

great amount found out - well done!
Just to say sometimes its not that the name was interchangeable as much as misheard, miswritten or mistranscribed.
I have ancestors whose last name was CALDAY for a few years in the mid 1850s which coincides with a change of priest/handwriting. They were illiterate and oblivious to how their names were being spelt. Before and after this period they were GILDEAs with alternatives of GILDAY, KILDAY, KILDEA......
