I’m trying to trace Bernard McGough...
Born -1851 in Tyrone, Ireland
I can’t find his parents names.
Wife - Sarah McGough (Branagan possible maiden name or middle name)
I can’t find a marriage record.
Children
Rose Ann
Thomas
William
John
James
Isabella
Census 1891 in Tanfield Durham
After this it seems to go blank..
possible death record of 1893 Gateshead/Durham
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hello Lisa,
1881 4942/37A/11 shows the family with Mary Branigan 16yrs b Newcastle.
1871 5092/46/25
Thomas and Isabella Branigan with children including Sarah and Mary.
Interestingly, there is a Bernard Goufe boarding with the family.

I can’t see a marriage either.
As you are only searching for Bernard, do you already have Sarah’s details from 1871 and before?
-
There are deaths for Sarah, 39 yrs in 1892 and Bernard, 42 yrs in 1893 both Gateshead.
-
Thank you, I will look into these details for both.

Ok. No point in looking in Ireland.
-
It looks as though both Bernard and Sarah are in England (Newcastle ) in 1871 so you would think the marriage would be 1871 - 1874. Roseanna b 1874, Durham.
-
I wouldn’t even know where to start in lreland, I’ve heard it’s impossible!!
You would think there would be a marriage in Newcastle/Northumberland/Durham area but I just can’t find one 😤
I’m wondering if they ever actually married or if she just took his name??

It doesn't help with your original query but there is a piece in the Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette of 20 June 1893 about the Bernard Gough who died in 1893. He was employed by the Consett Iron Company at the time of his death and his six children successfully sought damages under the Employer's Liability Act in respect of his death. £200 was awarded : eldest girl £20 ;the eldest boy £10 ; the next boy 15 years of age £10 ; the next boy 13 years of age £40 ; next boy 8 years of age £50 ; and the youngest girl 5 years of age £70 .
The ages seem to fit with the children in the 1891 census.

Ah, I agree with you then, given that the children are well distributed in 1901. ;D

Still had no luck with Bernard's parentage, Ireland records are impossible to trace!
