Does anyone recognise the castle in the attached photo? It looks Scottish, probably North Eastern. The photo is one half of a stereoview; there is no information on the front or the rear of the card.
-
That looks like Coats of Arms above the doorway. I don't suppose they can be blown up?
-
And on the wall to the right of the lady as we look at it, there seems to be a dark "patch". Can you see if that is something like "hours of opening"?
-
I can't get any useful info from the coat of arms, if this is what it is. I have tried playing around with it in Photoshop, but to no avail. I should have said that the photo probably dates to about 1860.
-
Not to worry. I'm sure there are more than me currently searching for other castles that might fit "yours"

This http://www.geograph.org.uk/article/Castles-Scotland might help - if only by eliminating some of the possible candidates.

And if you type Aberdeenshire Castles into Google Images, there are loads of photos on there for you to compare! Good luck! 👍👍

Three coats of arms above the door?
Skoosh.

Is there a reason to think Aberdeenshire?

Looks a bit like Ferniehirst near Jedburgh?

I only followed GR2's lead. I had not got that far down the list I was going through.

Generations of a family named Bell travelled the country building these castles & mastering the unique Scottish baronial style. A bit like the Stevenson's did later with the lighthouses, we owe them big time! ;D
