Title: Where is this near Devizes

Can someone who has detailed knowledge of Devizes and immediate area, pin point where is
Russell please. Circa 1828.
Hamlet or small village perhaps but cannot find it.Many thanks.

This query ties in with my previous post.

Person from Russell near Devizes Wilts attested 1/22nd Reg London 24 March 1846 1/11 Reg
Namely.
William White,born 1828.Russell near Devizes Wilts.
Second husband of Mary Bird nee McCue born somewhere in the Belfast area to Francis McCue farmer.
Its stated on his Army records that,,,, Intended place of Residence, Fredericton New Brunswick.
Couple married Fredericton May 1867.He left service shortly after having completed 21 years,mostly overseas.
As I have many folk in my own tree from the Wiltshire area,am finding out this guys origins.

The 1867 marriage is recorded in two places. The New Brunswick record has no details of fathers' names but the marriage is also recorded in GRO Chaplain's Returns:

William White and Mary Bird .New Brunswick  Year range 1860-1867 page 791 line 20

You could order the certificate if you don't already have it.

Thank you Christine,yes did find the Army Chaplains Returns.
The 1871 and 1881 Canadian Census also give whereabouts of the second husband William White with Mary,two children born Malta and two further children.Thomas Birds two children are named as White.
Family Search has endless info on Mary Birds daughter also Mary,she had numerous children in New Hampshire.Eight found so far,not all survived.
May well send for that marriage cert you mention,to confirm,but am not in Uk at present.

Believe this Death Record confirms the origins of Mary Bird.
  Son she had with William White.

Thomas W White b 1873 born New Brunswick.
Age 17 years 6 mths 18 days.
Father William White born England.
Mother Mary Bird born Belfast Ireland.
Occupation of father Farmer.
Date of death 25 Oct 1890 Lake Village Gilford New Hampshire United States
Reference,Family Search New Hampshire 1654-1949 Death Records.
