Title: Ballinger family
Post by: Freya Ellingsen on Wednesday 31 October 18 11:55 GMT (UK)
Looking for information on John Henry Ballinger who came from Co. Clare, this is according to his own marriage certificate here in Australia. His father was a Stephen Ballinger noted on his sons certificate as Labourer. John Henry Ballinger married in 1870 in Ballarat, Victoria Australia to a Mary O'Connell.
I have found 6 children born to the Ballinger's all in the Ballarat area.

Thanks

This is what I  found.
Tithe Book in 1820. ....... A Thomas Ballinger in the townland of Moymore in the Parish  of Kilmanaheen County Clare.
Can't find a Stephen.
In Griiffiiths Valuuation a Martin Ballinger in Ruan County Clare and a Michael Ballinger in Oughtmama  County Clare.
Not many listed, sorry.

If you go to the following link

and download these transcriptions kindly donated by Sheila Duddy of the Clare Past Forum:
Ruan-Dysart Baptisms 1845-1881 by father's surname.xlsx
In it you will find a bunch of Ballinger baptisms, including that of Ellen Ballinger in 1846, daughter of Stephen Ballinger and Ellen Fitzgerald.
If your John Henry was married in 1870, then he would fit well in this family.

sorry hallmark, I may be a bit slow on the uptake, but if your one word query refers to the aforementioned transcriptions, then they are Catholic baptisms

The death certificate, 1905, for John BALLINGER would ask for years in the colony, the better to locate his arrival.

Hi Freya,
My Grandmother was a Ballinger from Ruane Dysart area in Clare, Ballinger was her maiden name, she moved to Galway and married my Grandmother who was a Kelly they had 11 children,
I was raised by my Grandmother and she lived to be 102 most of my Grandmothers family live in Clare,
I am a Kelly from Galway,
I was always told when I was young that the Ballinger originated from France but when they came to Ireland they were Bollinger but the the O was changed to an A, this is what I have always been told and I spoke to my uncle and he said yes it is true,
If I can help with anything let me know
