Hi, I'm looking for my husbands grandfather's WW1 service records.
William Porter Edwards b 21.12.1894.
Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
Reg no. 266721. Cpl.
I fear that the service records may have been lost in WW11 as the few sites I have been on show no one from the Royal Warwickshire
Many thanks.
Ann.

I don't know if you have this but your man was in the 2
1/7th. Batt. This is the Batt. he first went overseas with. He enlisted 16/11/15 so possibly under the Derby scheme.
Discharged 8/11/17 sickness.
He would originally have had a 5 digit number. In Jan. 1917 all men from Territorial Regts. were renumbered with a 6 digit number.
-
Thank you. Would the first 5 digits be the same and a new one added.
Sorry this is all new to me.

His 5 digit number could have been anything.

Thank you for this info. The search continues

MaxD has corrected me in saying that your man was in the 2/7th. not 1/7th. as I put up.
I'll go & get a link to the correct diary.

Hello again,
I have received some information from an older family member that William was discharged early because of a stomach problem. He was told he needed an operation but refused as other soldiers had died following this procedure.
Because of his refusal, he was declined a war pension.
Could this be true or a story to tell the family. ????

Your man was discharged 8/11/17 due to sickness.
Whether he received a pension (or not) would be down to if the reason was attributable or non-attributable.
ie. was the reason as a result of or caused by his war service.
Obviously in his case it was deemed non-attributable.
Whether he agreed to an operation or not would not be a factor.

Many thanks.
