Kathleen was born in1892. Her parents were John and Marion. I have her marriage to Stanley Hopkirk Monard and have been able to find Dr in the census of 1911 and 1901. From those I can see that John was bornin1858. Now I am stuck. Is there anywhere else I can look?

Yes it is and I also found them in 1901 then came to a full stop!

Are you thinking that the John and Marion as witnesses on the marriage cert are her folks?
There is a John marrying a Marion Beattie in 1886, he is 27 and an estate agent, as is the John on Kathleen’s cert.
You can view the cert online:
John MCILROY to Marion BEATTIE 11 November 1886 ID 2384330 Newtownards

Thank you all. I had looked on that website and put in the name but nothing had come up. I obviously don't have the magic touch. I will look again and see if I can get further back.

You know the District so you need to try Mc*lroy and Mc *lroy for that District to allow for variations in spelling and a space after Mc and no space.

PRONI Valuation books
We know the McIlroys are living in Ballywilliam in 1911, so I searched the valuation books and noted a Marion McIlroy as the tenant from 1905
https://apps.proni.gov.uk/Val12B/ImageResult.aspx
The landlord appears to be a Michael DELACHEROIS
The public records office might include some information about the McIlroys as tenents
https://apps.proni.gov.uk/eCatNI_IE/ResultDetails.aspx
Especially this
D2489/10
Level : Item
Access : Open
Title : Bundle of documents relating to the Delacherois
Dates : 1836-1926
Description : Bundle of documents relating to the Delacherois family, The Manor House, Donaghadee, Co. Down. The documents include title deeds and leases, between the Delacherois family and various other individuals for properties in Donaghadee.
As John McIlroy was a rent agent, estate papers might be significant for finding information on him -- but you have to know who he worked for first
