Title: UK Incomming Passenger. Edna E D Haynes
Post by: ibbotson on Wednesday 07 November 18 10:44 GMT (UK)
Looking for details regarding an UK incoming passenger record for Edna E D ( Elizabeth Dupris) Haynes, born abt 1903. I have the details of her arriving Niagara Fall NY for transit to Canada in 1935, so assuming this record is her returning.

Hi Sandra

I note intended residence other parts of British Empire. That may answer why they don't seem to be on the 1939 ?

The address in Torquay on shipping records was the home address of husband Hugh's father.   He died in Torquay (in a nursing home) in 1935.

So what happened to Edna and her daughter?   The last time I see Edna in passenger lists is when she returned from Canada on 13/10/1935 but she appears to have been travelling alone.

On US Border crossings from Canada on 18/6/1935 her birthdate is given as 18th October 1903 Dublin (if I'm reading it right) BUT I note she and Hugh married in Dublin 1924 and that her maiden name was Barrett.   I subsequently found her with her family on 1911 Irish Census and Edna E D Barrett was then 13 years old i.e. shown bc.1898 and tallies with 1901 census when she is 3 (transcribed as Edva).   Her parents married in 1896 Dublin and Edna obviously born latter 1897 or early 1898 so at least 5 years older than she admitted to on passenger lists.

So I'm intrigued now as to what happened to Edna after arriving back in UK October 1935?   Can't see her leaving again, can't see a remarriage, and what became of daughter Veronica?  (I note that husband Hugh arrived from India on 20/5/1938 and the following year supposedly married to a Mildred.   However, he died on 6th Feb 1962 Torquay, probate to a solicitor and Mildred Haynes, single woman.  Mildred subsequently died in 1993 but it sounds like they were never actually married although she clearly changed her name to his).

Hi Annette

I was aware of the Roborough House link to Hugh's father.

Hugh did have a cousin Mildred Haynes 1885-1965 who I have down as the Mildred on his probate, but I note your Mildred is shown as died 1993 so I'm happy to be corrected. Hugh & Edna's 1937 divorce record does give the respondent as Rowland George Winn, 3rd Baron St Oswald, but I cannot find anything to suggest they married.

I also cannot locate Veronica. I note that Edna had "Dupre" in her name so is there a French/Canada link there seeing Edna returned from Canada alone in 1935.

Regards

This couple are in Wadebridge Cornwall 1939.     Dates of birth appear correct.
Mildred is using same name as on probate record, stating she is a single woman.
One closed record  ie child
Nursery governess and a  cook. Unable to post full details due to Rootschat guidelines.
