Title: Place name in 1786

HI
Can anyone suggest what the name of the place is in Wiltshire.
It Looks like "Waulop."
The word is written in the Will of Michael Henry PASCAL dated 1786.
He leaves some money to Henry DAVIDSON, an infant at school at Waulop in Wiltshire.

Hi Marg 16,

The nearest I can come up with is a "Nether Wallop" a village in Hampshire  but adjacent to Wilts. Apparently there are other villages similarly name;   "Over Wallop and Middle Wallop"

Checking the image of the will online, it looks to me like Wanlop in Yorkshire (not Waulop in Wiltshire).

There is some evidence of Wanlop/Wanlip in Leicestershire, but I haven't yet found one in Yorkshire.

There's a Thornton Watlass in North Yorkshire which is mistranscribed as a birthplace several times in the 1851 and 1871 censuses as Thornton Wallop.

Or perhaps Thornton Wallop was an alternative name for Thornton Watlass

Could it be the result of a misreading of Warley, in the parish of Halifax? There was a grammar school there - see http://www.calderdalecompanion.co.uk/kk_38.html

I also looked at Oxford and Cambridge alumni lists, as they sometimes give the name of a school that someone has attended. No luck - the only close match was a Henry Davison (son of James Davison dec'd of Cavendish Square, London) who matriculated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge in 1797 and was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1801. However, neither the alumni database nor the Lincoln's Inn admissions register mentions a school.

Thank-you everyone who made suggestions for "Wanlop". Having looked very carefully again at the original I think the suggestion that it says Yorkshire and not Wiltshire is correct. I am following up the Henry Davidson that was later in London and admitted to the Bar. The age/dates look good for that one.
