Title: McCourt - Weir Marriage
Post by: GDWrugby on Tuesday 13 November 18 01:14 GMT (UK)
Hi,
am looking for a parish record, I have the marriage notice from the Belfast Newsletter on the 14th April 1835.

It says
" On the 6th inst. by the Rev, Hugh McIntyre, Loanends, Mr Wm Weir, North street, Belfast to Rosanna, second daughter of Mr Wm McCourt, Templepatrick."

I am able to trace the children of this marriage but have very little information other than their names for the bride and groom. Am hoping the actual parish record of the marriage may have some more information which would help with birth or death dates.

Any help with further information specifically on William and Rosanna would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks
GDWrugby

Loanends is in the parish of Killead. Templepatrick is nearby in the parish of Templepatrick. Marriage certificates for 1953 are not available on-line (there’s a restriction on those within the past 75 years). However you can get a copy of the certificate from GRONI for around £16.

Contact details for ringing or e-mailing GRONI:

https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/contacts/contacts-az/general-register-office-northern-ireland

The church is unlikely to have any more information than appears on the civil marriage certificate.

She could be the daughter of William McCourt of Rickamore (in Templepatrick)
I know his son Edward (married 1833) had the mill there. But I'm not related to him!
Possible baptism or birth on the IGI (submitted entry!)
Rosa d/o Wm McCourt
17 June 1810, Templepatrick, Antrim

Potentially more on the UHF site
https://www.ancestryireland.com/search-irish-genealogy-databases/

Jane 1841
Eliza Jane 1843
Ann 1845

Jane might have been the name of Rosanna's mother?

Hi. very interested in the information you have on Edward McCourt, is the Rickamore you refer to Rickamore Road ? What sort of mill was it ?

I don't seem to be able to find the marriage of Edward as well do you have details of this ?

Many thanks again for your help.

Have you searched 1851 Census for your Surnames?

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01n0v/  you can enter Surname and search using Killead criteria

Most marriages for such an early date will give little detail (usually date, bride, groom and perhaps names of witnesses). Which church was Rev. Hugh McIntyre of Loanends attached to? Once you know which church it will be easy enough to check what records survive and if they've been microfilmed by PRONI- https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/publications/proni-guide-church-records

Hi. very interested in the information you have on Edward McCourt, is the Rickamore you refer to Rickamore Road ? What sort of mill was it ?

Rickamore is the townland (we only got road names in rural areas in fairly recent times (c1970 in my area)-

Griffith's Valuation & the Valuation Revision books (PRONI) might provide more property details-http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
