Title: Sky channels on Now TV stick
Post by: Roobarb on Thursday 15 November 18 21:10 GMT (UK)
I would like to watch Sky Arts but don't want to pay a subscription to Sky as I have no interest in the sports and not really bothered about the other channels. I already have a Fire TV stick but it doesn't look like I can get Sky channels on it. I've Googled the question and apparently if I have a Now TV stick I would be able to receive Sky channels. Does this include Sky Arts? There's a Now TV two month entertainment pass available for about a tenner, would this include Sky Arts?

Just to emphasise, it's only Sky Arts I'm interested in, wouldn't want to waste anyone's time in providing me with info about other Sky channels.  :)

Sky arts should be on the entertainment package at 7.99? Quid/month.

Look in supermarkets etc for a stick + free trial package

Thanks Pauline. Can I buy it just a month at a time, not necessarily consecutive months?

We have a regular monthly entertainment package , but certainly buy sports one day/week at a time as required.

You give card details when you sign up, and don't forget to cancel before renewal

Just to update, I bought a Now TV stick with a two month pass for a total of £13.99 which seemed to be a pretty good deal to me.  :)  It was easy to install apart from a problem when entering the voucher code, which was resolved when I contacted Now TV in an online chat. I can get the Sky Arts channel which is what I wanted so am a very happy Rootschatter in that respect.  :D

What I'm less than happy with is the fact that I had to enter my card details despite having the voucher for two months. Why can't they just end my receiving Now TV at the end of the two months? Actually I know the answer to that, it's because they hope people will forget to cancel and they can carry on pocketing the money. That really bugs me and I don't like leaving my card details online anyway. Other than that I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I agree, as I have had a bad experience with Now TV vouchers.

I have bought several voucher codes from ebay sellers.  I didn't worry about this because feedback from previous customers reported no problems, and if the voucher codes hadn't worked, ebay would have refunded me.  The vouchers were accepted by Now TV every time.  I only wish I had made screenshots of that, because later I found that Now TV had charged my card for some (not all) of those periods.  They refused to refund me when I complained, and said that vouchers should only be bought from official sellers.  Fine, but in that case why were the codes accepted?  If they were not valid, they should have been refused.

So be sure to check how much money they take from you, and take screenshots when you enter voucher codes.  I don't trust them an inch now.

I wrote a rather lengthy reply to this last night, then my battery went flat and I lost it all.  >:(

The gist of it was that the problem I had with the code was resolved when the online chat person sent me a link. Thank you for the warning about the charges, I checked my credit card and nothing has been taken. Have you contacted eBay? Because in effect the vouchers didn't work. Might be worth a try.

I bought the stick and vouchers to watch a specific series so I won't be renewing until the 2019 series has started, in fact I'll probably leave it till the whole series has aired and I can get all of the episodes.  :) It infuriates me being forced to auto renew unless you cancel, I never choose auto renew for insurances etc. These companies prey on people because they know they might forget to cancel so the company continues to get the money. Immoral behaviour in my opinion.

It was Landscape Artist of the Year I wanted it for, lots of wonderful art.  :) I've been semi binge watching it, should have plenty of time left to watch all the episodes once more.  :D

No, it was too long after the event.  To be clear, I wasn't subscribing at the time, so it was entering the voucher code that triggered renewed access, and the code was acknowledged and accepted in exactly the same way as the code I had with my first Now TV package.  It wasn't until a few months later that I noticed they were charging my card every month.

I had lengthy conversations with their customer service people who did seem to be trying to resolve it, but ultimately they refused to refund, claiming there was no record of those vouchers, and there was nothing I could do about it.  If only I had taken those screenshots.

I will say this for NowTV, they do tempting offers when you leave.  And they don't give up easily.

A few months ago they emailed me an offer of a month's Entertainment pass for £1.  I took this as there was a series I wanted to catch up on.  I cancelled when the month was up and they then offered me a further 3 months at half-price.  I accepted that.  It runs out in a few days, so I cancelled it yesterday.  I was offered further reductions but stuck to my guns.

Today I've received an email offering me 3 months for the price of one - that's £2.64 a month.  I won't notice that, so they've got me again!  I'll be sure to keep all the correspondence and screenshots though.  At this rate I'll gradually claw back the money they conned charged me.  ;)

Great to hear you've got such great deals SG  :D At those sort of prices I might renew when Portrait Artist of the year comes on, will make sure I take a screenshot if and when I renew!

Must admit the Now TV stick gives me better playback that the Firestick. Fast forwarding and rewinding is very straightforward, no buffering when I get to the place I want. It's actually against my principles to pay for any TV but I was happy to make an exception for this one programme, if I work it out as cost per episode it's very little. Hours of enjoyment.  :D
