Robert Wilkinson was born circa 1822. In the 1851 census he was living at 138, Edgmond, Shropshire, birthplace given as Drayton, Shropshire. Living with his wife Ann aged 27 and four children Sarah 8, Mary 6, George 4 and Jane 1.
In the 1861 census he was living with his wife Ann aged 38 and children George 14, Joseph 9, Eliza 5 and Harriet? 2 at 115 Edgmond, Shropshire however his birthplace is given as Edinburgh, Scotland??
He probably married his wife Ann Pruden on 11th December 1843, a Edgmond.??
I have quite a detailed newspaper report of his death on 10th November 1863,caused by excessive drinking of brandy and referring to him as a discharged soldier??
My questions are: where is he in the 1841 census, Shropshire, Scotland or elsewhere?
Why the differences in birthplace?
Can anyone shed any light on a military career
Many thanks

Welcome to rootschat
The marriage certificate would give an occupation for him and hopefully details of his 'abode' and his father

For info marriage is registered under the name
Robert Whilkson
England select marriages have it as

In reply to AVM228 regarding Elizabeth Wilkinson 1864- 1866, I found birth and death registration but is the name unlikely bearing in mind she had a sister Eliza born 1856?
Many thanks

Not really. People often treated them as completely separate names. Relatives of mine were so unimaginative that they named consecutive daughters Elizabeth and Eliza, less than 2 yrs apart (both survived).

Rosie99 I have obtained marriage certificate: married 11th December 1843 in the parish of Edgmond. Robert's surname is spelt "Whilkson" described as a labourer , resident in Edgmond at the time of marriage. So any military career would have been between c. 1837 (when aged 16) and 1843 when he was married and described as a labourer, or between 1843 and 1851 census when again described as a labourer??
Roberts father is stated as George Whilkson and a stone mason.
I don't however seem any further forward, any ideas where to go from here please??

Thank you for the marriage details, who were the witnesses

Richard .... It is a bit of a mess ::) (Marshstone :-\ )
Eliza Hamlet :-\

Found Eliza Hamlet aged 15 living in Edgmond very close to the Pruden family (Roberts wife family) in the 1841 census and Richard Moulstone living in Edgmond in the 1851 census?

Peety, those are the two names I was about to post without looking at the census :)

Thank you CarolA3 and rosie99,
Unfortunately I seem no further forward. I seemed to have trawled through a lot of the 1841 census looking for George Wilkinson but to no avail. I actually don't have Robert Wilkinson on the 1841 census either ???

The two witnesses both marry in Newport 1850.
GRO gives mothers MMN for Moulstone as George.
Marriage Emma George
