Title: seeking information on a German nurse during WW2
Post by: gerrycass on Saturday 17 November 18 17:47 GMT (UK)
Hi Looking for information on any descendants of a WW2 German nurse who was kind to my late father who was a POW. I found her photo and address in my fathers personal stuff. He passed away last year aged 94.

Her name was Ellie Kirchkoff (not sure of spelling) She lived in Potsdam Babelsberg Deutschland.

I have her full address and as stated her photo but will keep private at this moment

Hi Gerry,

the correct spelling would be Kirchhoff, maybe Kirchhof

Thanks Dave, the name is on the back og her photo and not sure who wrote it so you could be correct.

Hi Svenja many thanks for the interest. My father was in camp 111A which was in Luckenwalde, Brandenburg. He talked very little about the war and his time as a POW but did mention that about prisoners were moved to work in a hospital in Potsdam. hope this helps

Gerry.

PS i have a full address that was on the rear of Ellias photograph

Hi Gerry,

the Potsdam Address book from 1938 is online. No mention of her.

Called the Potsdam town archive today:

They have no address books or civil registration cards for the period 1939 to 1948.

They have the 1949 address book and there is an Ellie Kirchhoff registered in Babelsberg Nord, at house number 2 of the address you sent me. Her occupation is stated as labourer.

They have civil registration cards from 1950 onwards.
It is quite possible that she was still living at the same address in 1950.
The registration cards could have more info about her.

These records are not online.
You have to visit the archive or send them a mail with an research order. 32 Euros an hour.

Dave many thanks for your reply and the research you have done to help me contact Ellas descendants.

I would like to thank them as i know my father spoke fondly of the nurse that was kind to him during the war.

A cousin of mine in Scotland and I are thinking of taking a trip to Germany next year and this may allow us to do some more research.

Once again many thanks

Gerry
