Im new on here so sorry in advance if i have overstepped the mark.
Ive joined a few research sites but got nowhere.
My Grandad - James Wilson - ( btw my all time hero ) from a small village in Northumberland - Belford.
He was in the DLI and joined as soon as he was old enough about 1915 - 1916 ish.
If anyone could even point me in the right direction i would be so grateful.
Thank you for taking time to read this.

Can you find the address of The Durham Light Infantry headquarters, but they may have been amalgamated.
If not try googling The D .L .I and if you have his service number you may be lucky but sadly many records were lost when a bomb destroyed the building where WWIrecords were kept.
Have a try ,and I wish you luck.
Viktoria.

Welcome to Rootschat.
So far I see from his enrolment papers, which are very faint and show little. He was in the 5th Battalion, Regimental number 100266. He had the Victory and the British War Medals.

Thank you so much
Believe it or not i now have a lump in my throat and hopefully i can use the info you kindly gave to try again when i had all but given up

There are many pages but most cotain no information. There was a Hospital admission, why I can’t make out. He also got into trouble for lying in bed after Reville.
I have amended his Regimental number as I had typed an incorrect digit.

My god your good
Your right he was wounded in the leg shot i think but it may have been shrapnel.
You have told me more in the last half hour than i have know all my life
He would never talk to me about the war when i pestered him as a kid and would always change the conversation around to his beloved working collie dogs
