Title: Photo request for MORDEN CEMETERY
Post by: abun on Tuesday 20 November 18 13:46 GMT (UK)
I wonder if anybody would be able to take a photo for me of a plot in Morden cemetery.

The plot is for Josephine Earle died 22 February 1905, buried on 27th.  The plot number is Section 0, plot 3236.  I don't know if there is a headstone or not.

I've attached a map of the cemetery showing the location of Section 0

Many thanks

Martin

Since no one else has replied, I'll just say that I have plans to go there sometime, but due to the journey time, it's unlikely to be before the lighter evenings in the spring to give time for several searches I have to do.

I can't be sure about Section O, but many of the older areas at Morden are characterised by posh graves around the edge and large areas of more-or-less bare grass (unmown in places) over unmarked common graves in the middle. So a lot depends on how well-off the family was. The cemetery office should be able to tell you whether there is (or at least was) a monument on the plot, but if there's a fee, you may prefer to leave it to me to look.

Thanks Chris,

I have just found out that the grave is a public grave with no headstone.  If you are there at any time and could take a photo of the general location that would be appreciated, but please don't make a special trip.

Thanks

Martin

As an interim, I've chopped this from a photo of the Adams grave at O.1429. But from the number of private grave monuments to be seen, it may not be the common grave area.

Hi Martin

May I ask how you found out there was no headstone?

I have ancestors buried in Morden Cemetery  but when I telephoned the office to ask if there was a headstone on the plot they were not able to tell me.

The plot in question is for Benjamin Freeman (died 3rd Nov 1944, buried 8th Nov) & Amy Freeman (died 30th Aug 1973, buried 6th Sept).

The plot reference is Section R  758.

Regards

Lyndsey

There is no headstone because it is a public/common grave.
Yours appears to be a private grave so there may or may not be a headstone
