We have the OPR copy listing the marriage of our gggf Peter LAURIE and gggm Mary McNIEL on January 2, 1824 in Tynron. Peter was from Dalmakerran and Mary from Glencairn. We have been unable to ascertain their birth information, and also their death records. Peter LAURIE was a shepherd.
We have two daughters born to Peter LAURIE -- Catherine LAURIE born about 1834 and Mary LAURIE born about1836, both born in Sanquhar. Their birth records are also illusive. We have used LDS and Scotland's People, but to no avail. We believe there may have been more children born to this couple.
Catherine LAURIE married Robert GRIERSON in Glencairn in 1855. (Her father Peter LAURIE was shown as deceased on her marriage record). Mary LAURIE married Archibald McMILLAN in 1875 in Glasgow. Please help us over this brick wall. Best Wishes Bonnie Lassie (Florida - USA)

Just found this posting with a search for Tynron!
The most famous Laurie in the area is Annie Laurie who is buried in Glencairn Churchyard, she has been immortalised in the song " Maxwellton Braes are are bonnie" Maxwellton House being the "Big House" in Glencairn Parish. (Used to be open to the public, don't know if it still is).
found the following quote on a web site that has all the words of the song!
Annie (Anna) Laurie was born on 16 December 1682. The original poem was written by William Douglas of Fingland around 1700, then improved and extended by Lady John Scott of Lauderdale around 1834-35. William Douglas was not accepted by Anna's father Sir Robert Laurie, first baronet of Maxwellton, as he was a Hanoverian Royalist whilst William was a fiery Jacobite. Both Fingland and Maxwellton are located in Dumfries in the Scottish Borders.

In my family tree I have an Elizabeth Laurie born 1803 Tynron.
She was married to Alexander Gracie
Alexander Gracie was the brother of my 4th Great Grandmother Jane Gracie.

Could it be that our Peter Laurie was a relative of Elizabeth Laurie (possibly a brother)? Peter, we believe, was born between 1795 and 1800. He married Mary McNiel in Tynron abt 1824. We have been unable to find his birth record or death record. In the1841 Census, he is no longer listed. We have visited the Church in Tynron during our stay in Sanquhar a few years ago. Peter's daughter, Mary Laurie (born abt 1838 in Sanquhar), married Archibald McMillan (born in Sanquhar) in Glasgow in 1875. My grandmother, Jane/Jean Laurie Mc Millan was born in 1876.

Sorry I don't have any more information I have not really looked into the Laurie's I only have Elizabeth. Peter and Elizabeth may well be brother and sister though. I will look into it and let you know what I find.

hmm there is also an Alexander Gracie and wife Margaret I think I need to look into this perhaps I am mistaken

well seems several trees on ancestry have the Alexander Gracie who married Elizabeth Laurie the sister of Jane Gracie as I first said. I will PM you anything else Bonnie Lassie

Hi, I have my 4th great grandparents as Peter LAURIE and Mary MC Neil with the same marriage date and other information you mention.
I have found five children for them James (b:abt 1820), Alexander (b: bet 1833-35, d: 10 Jun 1857), Catherine (b:abt 1834, d:19 Jun 1871), Mary (B:abt 1837, d:28 May 1883) and Thomas (B:abt 1838). My 3rd great grandparents were Alexander who married Elizabeth McMillan 5th Sept 1856 at 87, South Portland Street, Glasgow.
Peter Laurie and his children are in 1841 census, Haigh Groth, Kirkonnel. He is an AG Lab aged 40. I have found a Peter Laurie buried August 5th 1852 Fourmark Land Tower, Holywood but not yet sure it’s the same one as only just found it.
I have found a Mrs McNeil in the Valuation Rolls for 1855 as Tenant Occupier for 43 Crown Street, Govan, which is the same address as Alexander Laurie, Elizabeth McMillan (according to their marriage certificate for 5th Sept 1856) and a Robert McNeill. Hope this helps.
