I've obtained a copy of my great grandfather's marriage certificate but I am struggling to read the occupation of my great-great grandfather. In the enclosed file the occupation of the bride's father, Walter Kedzie is clearly written as "Woodman" but above this the occupation of Matthew Laidler is unreadable to me.
I can't even work out the first letter as nothing like it appears anywhere else on the certificate. :)
The place of the marriage is also a bit obscure. It is written as "in the parish of "something" in Northumberland. Help on the "something" would be appreciated too.
The image is a bit big but if you right click on it and select "open in a new tab" it should all be visible.

No ShaunJ suggestion looks better.
You could check for him on a census to see if the occupation is the same and easier to read there :)

Thank you - cordwainer it is! I was just about to post a copy of the complete certificate but you beat me to it. However, here it is and now knowing it is a "C" I can see the resemblance with the "C" at the beginning of "Church" in the top line.

I see, the first part is an abbreviation of Saint as "St" but with the "S" flying so to speak. :)

No, your certificate actually says The Parish Church of Earsdon.
A search on North Tyneside Registrar's site http://www.northtyneside.gov.uk/marriage-register.shtml gives the Code C5 for the marriage, which is St Albans
