Seeking information on Alexander Brown Rae born around 1821 Kirkcudbright - was Councillor for Kirkcudbright in 1850s went to Bathurst Australia around 1862.
-
Hi
I'm not sure how much more info you require or how much of this you have:
There are 3 baptism entries in Kirkcudbright that might fit:
26 Aug 1824 son of John Rae and Janet McClure
20 Dec 1819 son of Alexander Rae and Mary Sim
11 May 1818 son of Samue Rae and Elisabeth Wallace
Also in Girthon:
31 Dec 1818 son of Nelson Rae and Isabella Porteous
1851 Census
Castle St, Kirkcudbright
Alexander B Rae, 29, cabinet maker, employing 2 men, b. Kirkcudbright
Jessie Ann, wife, 23,grocer, b. Whithorn, Wigtownshire
Elizabeth Rae, 13, daughter, b. Kirkcudbright
Elizabeth Ross, servant, 19, b. Kirkcudbright
Not sure about the age of Elizabeth. This from a transcription but have checked on the free search on SP and it has her as 13 there. Need to do some further checks.
In 1861, they are still there
High Street, Kirkcudbright
Alexander B, 39, master builder and cabinet maker, emp 4 men and 3 boys, b. Kirkcudbright
Jessie Ann, 34, b. Whithorn
In 1841, there is an outside possible for him,
High Street, Kirkcudbright
Alexander Rae, 60, Ag Lab
Mary, 55
Alexander, 25, house painter
William, 13
Robert, 10
All born county.

There is an online tree which as his parents as Alexander Rae and Elizabeth Brown and wife as Jessie Ann McMillan.
Married April 1845, Liverpool
-
However, the tree has him arriving in Bathurst in June 1859 when he was still in Scotland in 1861.
It's fairly thorough so I think a check on the arrival should be done.
-
I think the 1859 arrival is incorrect as the source given records him as a Mate.
-
There is a possible in Toxteth Park, Liverpool on the 1841, which might be worth considering, but I'm not sure at all:
Alexander Rae, 18, b. Scotland
No occupation given . Head of Household is a John Rae, aged 58, b. Scotland

He’s mentioned here with Jane Kerr, 1st column:
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article62721317
He’s still alive in 1886, and is a journalist. A long article here, starts 3rd last column:
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article62012743
I’d say this is his death:
5762/1893 RAE Alexander B parents ALEXANDER and ELIZABETH at FORBES

Sadly, these folk weren’t big on placing death/funeral notices.

Don’t know if this has been posted already:
5059/1890 RAE Jessie A parents CHARLES and EMMA J FORBES
I note that the father’s name differs from that on the marriage.

Will bring this query from the other thread as it's relevant to this thread. Maybe they should be merged :-\
I am looking for information on the Rae shipping family Kirkcudbright/Liverpool in early 1800s. What is their relationship to Alexander Rae, Vintner/Innkeeper Kirkcudbright who migrated to Australia in 1854 with his daughter Jane Rae, married to William Kerr, and their children. Any information on William Kerr, born Minnigaff, and Rae family members welcome. I am descended from William Kerr and Jane Rae.

I've just checked the tree that I mentioned before and Alexander did have a brother Andrew bpt 1818 d. 1859, Bathurst.
Does this tree give the immigration details, as in State and name of ship etc?

Helke, are you saying that Alexander, the father of Alexander Brown and Jane Kerr, also came to Australia, in his 70s?
Could you provide ports of entry and ships’ names, please?

Just come back on JamJar. Thanks for further links.
The OP hasn't come back on either of the two recent threads and only made comment on one of the other.
I don't think I'll spend any more time on these queries unless we hear from OP.
