From the GRO index - William Reveley Mar 1861 Scarborough 9d 282
Why can I not find it on Freebmd and the England & Wales indices? I tried William only and Rev* but no luck. Am I just not seeing it?

Free BMD have it as Thomas, that it is what it is on the typed image they are using.

Where the heck would Thomas come from if William is on the original?

Strange - the full GRO index used by freebmd is definitely Thomas - but when you use the reference on GRO online it shows christian name was William

Just a mistake in transcription, there is a Thomas Reveley of Tynemouth above, whoever typed it slipped up and repeated Thomas. The original index has been transcribed several times as the pages wore out with use in the old volumes. It is Thomas on the image on the Genealogist as well, I have not looked at the copies used on Ancestry or FindMyPast it is too late I am off to bed.

Ah the trials and tribulations of tracing rellies. Bad enough when the family change their name.
Thanks
