Name:William Templeton
Died: WW1
Possible Regiments: Argylls, Royal Iniskilling Fusiliers
I would like any information you could possibly give on the following picture of my Great grandfather. His name was William Templeton.
I am trying to trace my Grandmothers family tree and it is quite a sad story. she was left with a neighbour while her mother Sarah Mcguiness went back to Ireland and her mother unfortunately died there. Her father William Templeton was killed in the war. (The neighbour brought her up after that)
I have Picked up some information from my research that "a" William Templeton, may have been in the Argylls for a year and a reservist before then and then transferred to the Royal Iniskilling Fusiliers. I wonder if the uniform he is wearing is either of the two regiments. This would help confirm if my Great Grandfather in the picture is the same one I have found information on.

That is a pic of a Scots Guardsman wearing what may be a mess waiter's jacket where the normal button layout would not apply (Sure of the first point, may be wrong on the second)
The William Templeton Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who died 16 Aug 1917 son of the late Fanny Templeton is presumably the start point? His medal record only survives, that has no other regiment but if he served at home with another regiment it would not show there and without a service record -no other evidence. I find no Argyll/Inniskilling combination.

PS - not really relevant as it is the regiment that is to be identified.

William Templeton was the only brother to have been killed.
Same name, Same area but with your help it has been confirmed not the same person.

The photo is clearly Andrew of the Scots Guards.
The 27 April 1916 death on the Western Front is listed as Corporal J Templeton of 7 Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The Register of Soldiers Effects and other military records lists him as James. He had a widow Elizabeth and a father William. He did indeed serve overseas in the 2nd Argyll and Sutherlands and later in the Skins. Went to France on 7 October 1914.
