I would be grateful if anyone could look up the following marriage:
Birmingham 20th June 1804 Thomas Biddle m Elizabeth Lea. I’m keen to know whether it has any information on where the bride or groom were from, or occupation. I’ve only found a rather uninformative transcript.
Thanks, Dave :)

Thank you Norma. It is probably the marriage I’m looking for, but it would have been more unequivocal if Knowle had been mentioned.

Both "of this parish".
Witnesses Martha Eborall and Alexander Sanders.

Thanks. Isn’t “of this parish” just one of the most frustrating phrases in family history? ;D
The witnesses don’t appear meaningful either, but it probably is the right marriage nevertheless.

Dave, I note your mention of Knowle, a Thomas & Elizabeth had two children baptised there one 1806 the other 1814, the latter gives the fathers occupation as Carrier. In between and after a Thomas and Elizabeth had children baptised Aston Juxta, the ones in between father a labourer two baptised 1823, one born 1819 their father a Carter, abode for all at Aston, Erdington.
I think this may be the same family but further research required.

Thank you Colin, this is interesting. I’m sure that it is the people I’m looking for. Not only that but it might explain why two second cousins of these Biddle offspring (I think: I’ll have to draw myself a diagram) from Leicestershire married in Birmingham St Martin in the mid 1830’s, and one of them settled in Aston. I could see no connection before this.
As for missing burials, I have seen and photographed the headstone of an individual who died in 1826 but whose burial is definitely missing from the parish register (and the fact that his widow moved after he died but was buried back in the hamlet with him in 1852 seems strong proof that his headstone marks his grave and is not some sort of memorial).
