.This may be a photo of my gtggrandparents, it may not. If I could make out the facial characteristics I may be able to hazard a guess. ::)
-
I have been assured by my cousin that this is my gtgrandparents. If anybody could repair the photo I would be grateful.
-
Any chance of a bigger scan YT? ;) you are usually good at large photos! :)
Haven't done much except reset - too small to deal with (for me.)

YT as Wiggy says, this is really a bit small too get much out of it. All I've done is enlarge and increase the clarity, etc. so that you might be able to see some features.
Please don't regard it as a restore.
(Made smaller as previous one needs to be scrolled)
-
I am hoping to get the original next week, this is from an email I received
-
Thank's Gadget, it is clearer.
-
Don't regard mine as a restore either - just trying to see her face. ;)
-
I think I'll wait to try a restore until YT gets the original and scans it to his normal size.
Does it look like them YT?
-
It do's Gadget. Here is a photo of my gtgrandfather, the man in the photo. On this one he is the one holding the hammer.
-
And my gtgrandmother
-
And my gtgrandmother
It's her, I'm sure :D
-
Those were the days when hearing aides were really something!! ;D ;D
You can just tell it is them . . . . . . . I think! :-\ ;D ;D
-
It is

Younger version
-
A quick snip of faces from previous image. Again, I've not attempted a restoration.
-
OK Gadget, will see what the original is like if I get it.
-
Couldn't resist giving this one a little tlc. Lovely photo.

Thankyou Peter.
-
Scanned the original photo at 300dpi
-
My try.
Youngtug, my restore of your great grandmother's face is pure restore, but as the image of your great grandfather was so badly damaged my restore of him relies partly on features borrowed from your picture of him as a younger man.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you

Interesting, in the past I have been asked to scan photos on this board in colour mode. Will give it a try.
-
No.
Never scan in grey scale. You lose a lot of information.
YT - it's still very small. With this size of original, you need to either scan at as high a dpi as your scanner will allow (I've gone up to 48000) or, if you have the facility, scan it at a larger dimension size. I think this is only 350 -ish wide.

Also, save as jpg, without compression. png will keep the info but takes a lots of kb to do it.
-
OK, lets try this.

Hi Gadget
Thank you.

Mark, you might get nice sharp images but they are no good for restoration. I've been restoring photos since 1995.

Stop arguing. The vast band of restorers will tell you:

Do not give wrong info. How much experience do you have of restoring photographs?

For restoration purposes, images should be scanned in colour mode.
-
Must say all the excellent restorers on here when I was learning always told me to scan in colour for restoration purposes.
And my friend the local photographer who does a lot of work for his photographic club, also tells me always to scan in colour. :-\ :) He is a professional at this game.

If I may but in here...as a restorer of 11 years, I have always been led to believe from what I have read, and also learned from other restorers that a colour scan will always bring out the greatest detail as it picks up the full tonal range of the photo from black, through greys to white. It doesn't matter what colour the original is, the principal is the same.

OK, lets try this.
I've just seen this, YT. It looks much better for restoration. I'll see if I can restore it tomorrow. I must get on with Christmas stuff today :)
-
OK ,,,, Jpeg.
-
They're both much better :)
When I enlarge, I can see that it looks as if grt grandfather might have moved his head when the photo was taken as he has 2 noses and mouths. I'll try and sort it, but, if you have another photo of him, it might be useful. I see that the one with the hammer has a narrower face. I could use that as a guide if you have nothing more.
Gadget
Added - it could be that it's his cheek but it looks very nose-like. When I get it up and cleaned, it will show more clearly.
-
Gadget, that is it I am afraid, these are the only photo's of him, and I have only just obtained them.
-
Sorry for mentioning Greyscale, Mark
-
???
Young Tug has asked for a restore.
Added - slowly getting there YT - Monday pm or Tuesday :)
-
Just to add that I sent a restored image to YT last Monday/Tuesday.
