I'm looking for the parents of John Joseph Bellemore born in Quebec Canada but don't know when. John died in New York in 1889 but had married Catherine CLEARY at St Mary's Cathedral, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Any leads would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mary

For reference-
Married Katie Cleary in 1884-

Have you found him in 1880 U.S. or 1881 Canadian census?
-
I couldnt find him in the 1880 US Census - I've looked at so many things tonight :-[ not sure about the 1881 census, I have a feeling there were just so many but maybe I had better track back.
thanks.

It's possible, of course, that he was in Canada in 1880 then U.S. in 1881 thus missing both census but certainly worth checking.

Where have you found the death of John Joseph?

In case you haven't seen it, there's a report on the marriage in The Tennessean of 28 August 1884.

There's a John Bellmore aged 30 from Quebec in the 1881 census of Manitoba (District 192).

Kate and boys arrived 24 July 1890, on the Alameda, out of SAN Francisco:

Hello again everyone,
Thankyou all so much.
ShaunJ - I hadn't seen the newspaper clip before so that was interesting. I didn't sign up for the week free trial but I think I could read enough of what they allowed me to see. Interesting that John J had only been in Tennessee a few weeks. Food for thought there.
Jamjar - I was aware of the son Thomas Joseph but other than a quick look I didnot persue him in detail as my initial interest lies with his brother Charles John. More specifically with John Joesph and who his parents might be. The death of John J is from a very secondary source in the form of a family tree. I have sent the owner a message and waiting on a reply.
aghadowery - no luck with the census in either country - the many different spellings for the surname may account for that. :)
Appreciate the help

There are quite a few newspaper and directory mentions for "J J Bellemore"
In Montreal in 1878; arrived in Nashville from ? Springs, Arkansas in 1884; running a saloon at 229 Church Street, Nashville 1886-1889.
-
Oh! Could I trouble you to see if there is a death notice in 1889 in Tennessee - a secondary source suggests he died of Pnuemonia in New York but the place name could be wrong.
Thanks
Mary

No I can't see anything about his death.
This is the text of the "Arkansas" item (August 18, 1884):
"Coming Well Recommended
Mr. J. J. Bellemore, recently of Hot Springs, Ark., has become connected with Newman's restaurant and saloon. Patrons of the establishment will find that he deserves the good name and recommendation given him in Hot Springs."
He wasn't the only Bellemore in Nashville around that time. There was Don (Donald Henry) Bellmore/Bellemore (also from Canada) and there's a marriage for a Dan Bellemore.
-
I can't find the births of Charles or Joseph in the Nashville records.

Those Christian names keep bringing me back to a French Canadian catholic family in Ontario.
There's Donald Billmore or Bellmore born 20 February 1866 and baptised at Lochiel, Glengarry on 18 March. Parents John and Margaret nee McDonald. Also there is an earlier baptism of a Donald born to the same parents (John Billemore and Margaret McDonell) in January 1864, though that seems to be the one who ended up being called Daniel.
The 1871 census for this family (in Kenyon, Glengarry) includes John aged 10, and both of the two Donalds, one aged 6 and one aged 4.
The 1881 census for this family (in Cornwall Ontario) includes John, 20, Dan 17, and Donald 15.

ShaunJ and Sandra, I had found Donald last night but called it a night before checking the Canadian census - so thankyou for all the work while I slept. You have both given me some work to do. A family story is that there was a fire in The Records office at Nashville. Which may explain the lack of records. Thank goodness for newspaper achieves.
Really appreciate the help :)
