I am trying to find the birth of Angelina Pearl, born about 1865 at Bury St Edmunds. Angelina, aged 21 years, marries William George Russell 27th September 1886 at St Thomas, Bethnal Green, London. Her father is recorded as being Edward Pearl, employed as an Ostler. At present I am unable to find Angelina on the 1871 or 1881 census. On the census she does appear on her birth place is recorded as Bury St Edmunds. I believe Angelina dies in 1952. I have Angelina on the 1891 and 1901 census as the wife of William George. There is a story that Angelina may also have been known as Annie.
I would be grateful of any further information regarding Angelina.

Martin

By 1871 Elizabeth Pearl 12, is the “adopted daughter” of Richard & Amelia King in Bury St Edmunds, so presumably something has happened to the Purl/Pearl family.
RG10/1728/30/15.

I see that Edward Pearl went on to marry Mary Ann Miller in Bury St Edmunds in 1866, but their family in 1871/1881 does not include Annie/Angelina. I wonder whether after her mother died she grew up outside the family?
1871: RG10/1728/170/28
1881: RG11/1843/109/15

Here she is I think - parents apparently weren’t married, so registered in her mother’s maiden name:
Angelina Wells, birth reg Dec qtr 1863 Bury St Edmunds
Also a brother: Charles Pearl Wells, Mar qtr 1862 Bury St Edmunds (died Dec qtr 1863 aged 1)
Likely death of mother: Eliza Wells aged 37, Jun qtr 1865 Bury St Edmunds

Angelina Wells aged 8 is a niece of Samuel & Jane Mitchell in Bury St Edmunds in 1871:
RG10/1727/95/15.
Their marriage: Samuel Mitchell to Jane Pearl, 14 Sep 1854 St John the Evangelist, Bury St Edmunds.

Angelina had a Mitchell as a witness at her marriage, so that is the connection

I have a line line of Pearl(e)s in my FT going back to 1541 and beyond. The first documented appearance is John Pearle, (my 10x gt grandfather) b. 1541, who became Parish Officer of Rattlesden, Suffolk, which is about 10 miles from Bury St Edmunds. My maternal grandmother was a Pearl (the 'e' had been dropped by then). The extended family moved between the villages of Rattlesden, Hitcham, Thorpe Morieux and Brettenham until, in the 1930s, they upped sticks and moved to Ipswich, Suffolk. I'll check through my FT and see if I can find any useful connections.
There are quite a few helpful websites too, I'll post links to them when I find them.

Thank you to all the people that have read and replied to my enquiry regarding Angelina Pearl. I will take a closer look at all the replies, but it would appear from first glance that the replies have resolved my enquiry. I would still be grateful for any further information that may come to light.
Thank you once again to everybody.
