Title: aldridge family 1861 census England
Post by: kiwifortyniner on Monday 24 December 18 03:45 GMT (UK)
Hi

I am looking for 1861 English census records for Henry (sometimes called James) Aldridge and Susan Aldridge [nee Frost ] and family. Both parents and all the children I have found were born in Suffolk.  I have found the family in the 1841 and 1851 censuses in Walsham Le Willows, Suffolk and in the 1871 census in Bradford Yorkshirebut caannot locate them in the 1861 census.

I have the following children. There may have been others.
James Henry (1842)
Robert (1843
William (1845)
George (1854)
Allan Thomas (1862)

I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks

kiwifortyniner :)

Henry married in mar ¼ 1841 Stow, Dist, Suffolk to Susan Frost. You may already have this but his name was originally  recorded as Aldrich.

This maybe James Henry in 1861.
James Aldrich b 1842, Finningham. Servant in the household of Elizabeth Marley, Gislingham, Suffolk.

Finningham is 4 miles from Walsham Le Willows.

Thanks for all you replies. We were pleased to get Matilda's name as we are pretty sure she is right and we are following up the names Matthew William and Henry James in London as they fit in so well with the dates of the other children and the parents names are right. If  Henry and Susan did take the family to London for a bit they were back in Walsham le Willow for Allan Thomas's birth in 1862. We still have no idea where Henry and Susan were in 1861 but we know they were in Bradford in 1871 as we have census records. Would be grateful for any help tracking Henry and Susan

Hi kiwifortyniner

Although Robert Aldridge was in Yorkshire for the 1861 census, the rest of his family may well have been at Walsham le Willows. Unfortunately, schedule numbers 30 to 49 (probably including part of Cranmer Green, where they were living in 1851) are missing. As posted to RootsWeb's Suffolk mailing list in 2009 (https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/suffolk.rootsweb.com/thread/2122160/):

Two leaves (four pages, covering 20 households) have been lost from the 1861 census of Walsham le Willows (RG 9/1144). A note at the foot of the description of Enumeration District 12 on folio 144 indicates that pages 7 to 10 had gone missing and may at some stage have been stored separately ("see loose leaves in cupboard"). This was apparently before acquisition by the Public Record Office (where the technical term for such absent pages would have been "wanting") as folio number 149 was then stamped on page 5 and f. 150 on p. 11. It seems very likely that the intervening pages have not survived ...
