I just thought I'd check, and found that according to the 1930 US Census, Santa Claus was born abt 1888 in Missouri. and just so you know.....Mrs Claus was called Mabel.
Knew he was real! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

That has made my day now that you have confirmed he is real and not just a figment of adult imagination ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
But an American, really :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Merry Christmas :) :)

Well there is a book by Raymond Briggs of The Snowman fame.
It is called Father zChristmas and is the real lowdown on him!
Father Christmas lives in a terrace house with an outside loo,the woodwork is painted green.
He actually hates”bloomin’Christmas”
He is married.l
Look it up if you do not believe me,it is all there in black and white!

Father Christmas and Santa Claus aren't the same person.
Father Christmas wears green and brings goodies for adults, think he's related to Bacchus.
We likes Father Christmas yummy.

So is that the secret of how THEY manage all those deliveries?
A problem shared is a problem halved etc.... ???
-
Well Bacchus would not really deliver presents,a crate of Brown Ale maybe.
Your Father Christmas sounds like the spirit of Christmas Present from Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, “There sat a jolly giant, magnificent to see”
Santa Claus really is Saint Nicholas, called SinterKlaas in Holland and Belgium.
He does spread deliveries over a period though, children get some chocolate in their clogs and one present on December 6th,which is a school day often.
Adults exchange gifts on New Year,s Day.
January 6th is Drie Koningen, Three Kings or Epiphany.
I wonder why he took his time!1888!
And why Missouri..
We used to call him Father Christmas ,Santa Claus was what he was called in American films, was there perhaps a strong Dutch community there in Missouri?
So what do we do next year? Who do I send my letter to asking for my presents?
Well I have almost a year to worry about that now.
Oh hecky thump!

From Terry Pratchett of Discworld fame.
A wonderful and sadly missed author.....
-
Thankyou, had no idea it was from the pen of Terry Pratchett.
Thought it sounded Scandinavian, another name for F.C or St. N.

Not sure how light hearted this is but was Santa Claus St Nicholas?
Louisa Maud
-
Yes, the original Santa Claus/Father Christmas was based on St. Nicholas
-
The original story is fromGreece or Turkey where St Nicholas gave gifts to some girls for their dowry, around Christmas time.
He was also concerned about children’s welfare.
I would have to look it up for exact details.
