If you can give us a name we can check passenger lists - usually available on subscription sites.

Be aware that most passenger lists would give the destination port as Queenstown. (1849-1920) when the name was changed to present day Cobh. Cobh/Queenstown is a deep water port/anchorage on the south side of Great Island in Cork Harbour.
There are some passenger lists here

It would be much easier to find your person with a name. There are some 3661 inward passenger lists for the port of Queenstown from 1878 until 1897.

All I know is he ended up in Cork  supposedly come from America but was from Newcastle upon Tyne UK.

If it was the scenerio that Francis just sailed across from Liverpool or any British Port to Cork then it would not be recorded  :-\
