Is there a freeBMD.org.uk equivalent for America.
I’m trying to help a family in Argentina with Welsh ancestors (they emigrated in 1896) and have traced a branch of the family who ended up in Michigan. One of their sons had 5 children from 1927 to 1936 - found on the censuses - and his obituary in 1986 mentions 17 grandchildren who we know nothing about 🤔 and would love to find.
Not done much research in Anerica before so any suggestions gratefully received.
Edited to add: currently stuck going backwards - need a few certificates - so looking for any possible relatives who may be able to help.

Sadly the USA does not have a BMD index. Once you are signed up to family search (which is free) you can check the collection that is available for Argentina or USA

No, there is no national registry except for the Social Security Death Index which records the death of anyone with a social security number [virtually all adults]. Your best bet, as a starter, is FamilySearch:

Thanks Sandra, i have been on Family Search - found the obituary there - but seem to have come to a halt. Member of Ancestry and Find My Past too.
Morris Henry Jones, born Saskatchewan in 1903, moved to Michigan in 1925 and married Eleanor Emma Marshall in 1926. Settled in East Lansing, then Charlotte and died in Fremont, Newaygo County.
Children Esther Eleanor 1927-2006 (married Walter Marcus Bradford), Rxxxx born 1930, Eunice Arlene born 1932-2016 (married Edward Allen Hall, divorced), Dxxxx born 1934 and Robert Glenn 1936-2003.
So far I haven’t been able to find any children from these marriages, and not confirmed marriages for the sons, let alone the 17 mentioned (by number only) in the obituary.

Morris Henry Jones was the son of David Price Jones and Cecilia Morley, both born in Wales (Pontypridd area) in 1875/76. They married in Argentina around 1901 before sailing to England in 1902 then from Liverpool to Canada. It is Cecilia’s family i am helping with, a descendant of her brother John (born in Argentina).

Hi Sandra, i must just say thanks again for your help on this. I now have an extremely grateful and excited Argentinian family who will endeavour to contact the family in the US. Thanks to you, we have found the daughter and granddaughters on facebook, and for added good luck they speak Spanish. After 3 weeks of helping the family i only discovered yesterday that they were copying my discoveries into google translate, answering in Spanish and re-translating before replying to me. Over the years the family has tried to find out what happened to Cecilia after she left Argentina in 1902 with her husband and baby daughter, so you can imagine their delight. Once again, many thanks.🌺😀.
