Title: Help! Can anyone decipher the father of the bride's name?
Post by: prsongbird on Wednesday 02 January 19 21:11 GMT (UK)

This is my great great grandparents marriage certificate.

I am at a roadblock with my research for the father of the bride's side of the family because I can't decipher his name.  I can tell the last name is Johnston. I have found other records where the daughter (bride) states that she is of Danish decent.  It is known in my family that this line is also of Icelandic decent.

I can't tell what his name is. Astmery Astney Adney Admey...I just don't know.  Most of the names I've come up with don't even seem to be names.
I do believe that the first letter starts with an A and ends with a y.

Maybe is is a shortened form of a name?  Any help or brainstorming would be much appreciated! :)

Thank you in advance,

Michelle

Welcome to RootsChat!    :)

Difficult one isn't it.  Could be either of those suggested.   :-\ :-\   (The overwriting certainly makes things difficult doesn't it.   :-\)

Hi ....

A family tree on Ancestry has his name as Asbury. In 1921 Lena states parents born in Denmark.

My great great grandmother Lena Winnifred Johnston was born in Manitoba and married John Ernest Halford.

Her name has been spelled differently on different records, sometimes she goes by Winnifred or Winifred, and other times it's Lena.

She has indicated on a couple census records that her parents are from Denmark.

I can't find anything on Jennie Johnston (death record), I've been trying to search Canada records since she could have stayed in Manitoba, or gone to Vancouver like her daughter did, or anywhere really. Johnston is her married name of course, and I don't know her maiden name.
I've been trying to find travel records also for coming to Canada for Jennie and her husband...it's hard searching when you don't have the proper spelling of the name. Not to mention further records will likely be in another language.

I'm estimating that Jennie would have been born sometime between 1843 and 1869 - since Lena Winnifred was born (supposedly) around 1883...but I also have not been able to find Lena Winnifred's birth certificate for Manitoba...the closest thing I've found is off by 10 years...so unless she lied about her age when married, I haven't found her birth certificate.

The family tree mentioned above is likely my family tree, and I probably have his name written wrong. It was my best guess at the time.
