Hi folks,
I wonder if someone can assist me with this man. He was killed 1 July 1944 while flying with the RAF.
From the CWGC I have nothing as no family or hometown is given. https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2321052/whitehead,-barry/
But from a document found in the file of the Canadian airman in this crew I have his next of kin as " (mother) Mrs. W. Whitehead, 47 Halifax Road, Todmorden, Lancs"
Can anybody tell me about Sgt Barry Whitehead and his family? *Spoiler Alert* A fellow crewman of Sgt Whitehead's was also from Lancs so a second post will go up for him.
Many thanks in advance.

Second from left, rear.

The Canadian airman, Harold Herbert King, how did he have Barry's mothers name?
-
Suspect his father was Randolph Whitehead. You need to look up Randolph on the 1939 register for further info. We are not allowed to publish 1939 details here.
-
Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, 11 July 1941 - a brief local news item refers to a car accident involving Ronnie Whitehead (18) of Halifax Rd, Todmorden & his brother Barry and father Randolph, who were both treated for cuts.

Could Harriet E Whitehead have died in 1917, Blackburn and Randolph re-married?
-
The Op said mother was Mrs. W. Whitehead
Yes, and the W could be the husband’s initial, or hers.

In King's service file, as well as most RCAF service files, is a telegram from the squadron to the Air Ministry which lists all crew as well as next of kin. Canada declassified these in the mid 90s.
Thanks for replying.

No other marriage for a Randolph after 1917.

Thanks Jamjar. Reversing partners surnames on FreeBMD I came across a Harriet E Skillicorn marrying Randolph in the March 1916 Qtr in Blackburn. One daughter in 1917 and then nothing.

Many thanks to all.
I'll have a look on the 1939 Register. It's also not unheard of corrupted groups of letters on these telegrams ie. Mrs W. I was just going on what I could see.

I originally thought that, there is a William Whitehead in Todmorden 1939.
-
Yes, I was just thinking the 1939 may help.
Meanwhile, here is Randolph on the 1901 and 1911 census:

There are only two William marriages that would suit:
Sep 1918 Todmorden 9a 446
WHITEHEAD William
MILES Sarah E
Dec 1919 Todmorden 9a 621
WHITEHEAD William C
KENYON Martha A
No Barry birth to either.
I guess that just because Barry was ‘from’ there, doesn’t mean he was ‘born’ there. :-\

I noticed the ‘I’ Whitehead person and have been searching with no success yet.
It looks as though ‘I’ is shown on electoral register when they reached 21 yrs in 1940s.
There are two marriages which may be that person.

Is this the same Randolf Whitehead?

You may already be aware but just in case............
The Jun 1917 birth of daughter was in the same quarter as death of
Harriet E Whitehead (age 28) Jun 1917 Blackburn
burial date 30th June 1917 Web: UK, Burial and Cremation Index, 1576-2014
added
I think their daughter married 1936 (E Ainsworth) and NA died 1957 age 40, they can be found together on 1939 register , looking at her dob it looks as if her mother died just over a week later....
