Hello,
I reside in Australia and have been on site a few years ago but am looking for updates on some ancestral history. My great great grandfather was Thomas Harrison born in Cheshire 1842-1924 married to Mary Eliza Miller 1845. He lived in Cheshire and was listed in the 1891 census at Witton, Cheshire as a ropemaker/twine manufacturer. There doesn't seem to be any information on that profession so I know it is a vague area, but if anyone has any suggestions, directions or information, it will be gratefully appreciated. I read that there was a financial crash late 1800's that caused a change of work and move to Lancashire for my great great grandfather so the details on that work also peter out. Many Thanks. John H.

I think part of the downturn was probably to do with the phasing out of sailing vessels with their much greater rope requirement.
