Title: Sri Lanka/Ceylon looking for my Gr-gr-grandfather Adam Clarke Ambrose
Post by: dutch missmarple on Sunday 06 January 19 14:40 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

looking for a number of details about my gr-gr-grandfather ADam Clarke Ambrose.
I know that he was probably born in Jafna in about 1834. He died 1910 (don't know date and place)
He married Mathilda Jacobina de Bruijn (1835 - 1875 ?) (don't know year or place of marriage).
They had 2 children (as far as I know): Frances Winifred (about 1870 ?) and Edgar (1873).

So I have questions like:
when and where was he born.
when and where were Adam and Mathilda married.
where and when did Adam die ? he did live in Kandy for quite a few years I understand.

Were there any more children ?

Any help grately appreciated.

Thank you.

Looking in Fergusons Ceylon Directories:

A C Ambrose was head clerk for F W Miller & Co, retailers in Colombo in 1871.
A C Ambrose is a clerk in Kandy in 1883
Adam C Ambrose was a clerk with W D Gibbon in Kandy in 1890-1893

I haven't checked all the directories available on https://www.historyofceylontea.com/ceylon-publications/fergusons-directory/  - a wonderful resource.

yes Shaun, I know. Found this tree online. I haven't got a clue who EM is. Certainly not my great-grandmother. Her name was Frances Winifred, born about 1870.
