Alice Elen married Alfred Roberts on 2 June 1900 (Vol 7A P 218 Line 352). Her father is listed as Joseph Baughan, so she was probably a widow. Could someone please look this marriage up and let me know the details such as marital status, age and witness names? If she was indeed a widow, I am trying to work backwards to discover which Elen was her first husband :)

Alice is with her parents in 1891 & 1901 and in 1901 has a 7 yr old daughter b Clerkenwell Edith M - surname shown as Ellen. Edith Maud Ellen b Islington 1893

Seems strange she married in Leics when she is in London in 1891 and 1901 and daughter was born in London

Yes she is as widow of S. Lukes Holloway Full Age Joseph Occ joiner.

Edith is the only child I have found for Alice on the GRO and is registered with surname Ellen, same as on 1901 census, so I am wondering if the surname Elen on the marriage to Alfred Roberts is incorrect.
I haven't found the 1891 census; could you tell me what her surname is on that please?

It’s Alice L E Baughan in 1891 and she is with parents which narrows the marriage to 1891-1893. I’ve even looked on SP in case she married there but no joy. No death pre 1900 in the locality for an Elen/Ellen

Just looked at the 1891 image and although she is Baughan there is an 11yr old Eva Baughan granddaughter. Difficult to say for sure whether her marital status is m or u

Very strange, if the right person, but George Ellen, the husband of Alice in 1881, seems to be on the subsequent censuses with different wives, and with Alice's son, Frederick, in 1891.

Alice's second marriage seems to have been a red herring. As George's surname is always spelled Ellen, it is doubtful he has any connection to the Elen family. :)

Yes, that is correct. I was interested to find Alice's first husband because it appeared he was an Elen, but all the evidence kindly produced shows that is not in fact true (so I marked the topic as completed).
