Hi Lnr,

Is mcsavney a surname?

Can you tell us anything else about her for her (adopted or real) parents?

Can you please rephrase that question. What is it you actually want to know?

What was her birth name?
Is the surname of the adoptive parents GARDINER or HOARE?
What was registered in 1984 (I presume death but I don’t see a death in any of those names)

Re the registration for 1984, perhaps a passport or something similar was needed and the Birth Certificate was required, which she probably didn't have and it was registered then.

Is the surname of the adoptive parents GARDINER or HOARE?

Mabel (no middle name) Hoare married 1905 to Sidney Gardiner.  Note the different spelling for Sidney.  So looking for the surname Gardiner.

If it is the same person, looks like there are brothers called Fred born 27 May 1905 and George 12 December 1894.

thanks All I know is that a child by the name of Esther May Mcsavney born 23 november 1899 chch was adopted( Dont know what age)by Sydney Gardiner and wife Mabel elizabeth (nee Hoare) married 1905The birth was registered chch 8th Feb 1984 I do not know why either.Seems funny as Esther would have been  nearly 85? years old. Sidney and Mabel divorced In those records. it says that Estherwas adopted in 1914 at the age of 15 and sydney remarried 1917 after coming home from the war By then esther would have been 17-18 years old= lnr

Hello.

In my experience, and as per a reply to the forum by B. D. & M.  The year date in the register is the date that the registration was formalized. Eg the need for a formal birth certificate to be able to claim a pension, could see a birth registration being applied for 60 - 65 years after birth in NZ.

You state that an adoption was involved. When I was involved with a Parent's Centre in the 1960's the family court first issued an interium adoption, [with a cool off period] before the Court would formally confirm the adoption. The final application may never have been actioned. But adoptions laws have changed over time.

I would think that there was probably a need for a birth certificate, to do with the disbursment of an deceased estate. Proof of Grand child etc.

Alan.
