Title: Mary Elizabeth Inman
Post by: suttontrust on Wednesday 09 January 19 08:53 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to trace what happened to Mary Elizabeth Inman, born in Hull in 1898.  I have her on the 1901 census with her parents.  There's a complicated story about a court case in Wales in 1908/09 which I won't go into, but after it she was said to have gone into the workhouse, although there were offers to adopt her.  The only likely candidate I can find in 1911 is in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire, where she has been adopted by Mary Skinner.  Whether or not that's her, the trail goes cold.  A Mary Elizabeth Inman married James Smith in Hull in 1922, but that's a long shot.
Any detective work would be appreciated.

Have you gone forward to the 1939

Have you got her date of birth?

I have no subscriptions to find anything other than the basics.

I think it was Margaret not Mary Skinner. There is an entry in the probate calendar for Margaret Skinner of Chandlersford, Hampshire, died 16 July 1912. Her will might show if this is the Mary Elizabeth you are searching for.

You're right, it was Margaret.  And that's a good idea, thanks.

Was Mary Elizabeth's father Thomas?

No, I think it was John, mother Sarah.  That's the 1901 census and it fits with everything else.
